It wasn't on their website but a 30 second phone call to Dan at Diamond Race cars in Ohio (not to be confused with Diamond Race Cars in Indiana, a modified builder) confirms that they are indeed still producing their  front suspended DRAGSTER chassis. The phone number is 419-875-4080 if you'd like to call him yourself Bruce.

A few years ago there were a few  RED's around running Strange's altered struts.    More recently there was a builder with a swing arm or link type straight axle front end.  The selling point was the ability to keep the front tires on the ground at the launch .  The reasoning behind it is that it would help starting line  consistency  in bracket type rear engine cars that would occasionally and sometimes frequently (depending on xxxx near everything and anything) quickly pop the front tires off the ground and set them back down again almost immediately causing erratic red lights and/or reaction times.

Are you looking to solve an existing problem?

If it worked, they would still be around today and the question would not have to be asked.  add the same amount of weight all that stuff weighs to the front and it would keep the front end down too and for much much cheaper

Who said it doesn't work?  There's still guys running them and building them today.  Serious bracket racers put more miles on their dragsters in a season than you will in five years and frequently race for serious money.  They're likely to have tried a lot of things to solve their problems and this clearly works for some of them.  Most of these cars have so much stuff on them that they already have a ton of front weight on them and shuffling weight doesn't always have the effect that it does on a lightweight  car.

If you're systems been flowed and you're confident with the numbers head on over to Spuds page and use his calculator.  And because he's so nice to provide the free info it couldn't hurt to buy the parts from him. I've used his info several times and always came out with a xxxx good starting point.

I'd look up the weight per foot (or your preferred unit of measure) and do the math to see how much you'll really save and make your decision from there.

Rear Engine Dragsters / Re: adding tabs and other mounts
« on: February 08, 2019, 05:34:50 PM »
The only brackets called out in the spec are rear end mounting brackets.  The spec also says that all "structural" welding in the drivers compartment needs to be tig welded.  Interpret it how you want but it doesn't say that small brackets and tabs for non structural items like dash mounting or chute lever mounting etc have to be moly and tig welded.  There's no doubt in my mind that some will insist that every bracket and tab for even the smallest item needs to be moly but there's also no doubt in my mind that there's plenty of cars out there with mild steel tabs.

We run a 105" Altered at 1600 pounds with a stack injected 355 sbc.  Best of 8.79 in great weather.  Runs 8.90 like clockwork year round, we slow it down a bit to run the 9.0 class at our local track.   Shouldn't be much of a trick to build a 392 to run 8.60's.

Just so no one gets confused if they happen to find out their rear end uprights aren't .083 wall, the spec Greg quoted is the faster 2.2 spec (5.99 and quicker).  The 2.4 spec (6.00-7.49) calls for a minimum .058 upright.

Oops, i meant to include that in my message. thank you.

Yes, that is for 2.4C - Top Fuel.

I won't bash you to hard since the computer I'm typing this on is the one you built me.
