Front Engine Dragsters / Re: sinching lap belt
« on: December 19, 2023, 07:09:20 AM »
I've never had good luck with the pull-up belts. I'm a one man show also. The cheap g-force pull down belts work best for me to get them tight. I've tried a lot of other belts before trying these.

Every time it goes sideways in the burnout box, it's been the circumference of the tires were different for me. I would recheck them again. If you over inflated one to stretch it to match the other, I've found that they eventually shrink back to their original size over time.

I can't help you about the tubes but what I would do is. Paint the inside of the rim to seal up any porosity, coat the inside of the tire thinly with dish soap, keep the car on stands between events.

Could you not just use a air bleed nozzle to spray your priming fuel into the intake with? Wouldn't the air bleed holes brake your vacuum so you don't continue drawing fuel?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Some basic simple questions
« on: October 03, 2018, 08:16:35 AM »
Why does everyone say to put a jack under the front end to see how high it is when the wheelie bar hits? The front end gets picked up by the pinion trying to climb ring gear. So wouldn't the front of the motor be your leverage point? Shouldn't you put the jack there so you can take into account the chassis flex? I had an old fed that was a late 60's 186" car. When I put a wheelie bar on it I first set it at 3". That car wouldn't do anything but sit there on that starting line and just spin. Front tires never raised a bit.  What was happening was with that narrow chassis it had a lot of flex in it. Once I put 5" under the wheel it started behaving. This was only with a mild sbc

I think it's Mohawk that has a four post that the rails are adjustable. It's on my dream list for the new shop but unfortunately it's out of my budget. Since that one's out I'm trying to decide if I want a 2 or 4 post lift.

I had a fed that I had bracket raced for over a year and a half. It was just a simple cheap built 302 Chevy in it. One day I added a carb spacer to it. I made a t&t pass not much changed so the next t&t I raised the rpm 200 at the line and when I took off I drug the push bar on the ground. The next time out it had a bar on it.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: What's going on with these earth straps ?

I'm no expert but that looks like aluminum from detonation. I would say your to lean and/or your timing is way off. Like I said I'm no expert so lets see what the more knowledgeable peolpe on here have to say.

Drag Racing / Re: battery mounting?
« on: October 01, 2016, 06:35:44 AM »
The one thing you need to remember if you mount it lengthwise(like Glenns) you have to use a battery with spiral plates. If you use a standard flat plate battery the plates can fall over and short out when you take off at the line.

I am far from an expert but it looks to me like all the wear is below center on the distributor gear. Like the distributor is to high. If you only ran one gasket make sure the distributor isn't bottoming out on your oilpump shaft.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: ARM RESTRAINTS--BEST WAY TO DO IT?

My straps are just like these ones.

I hook the loops in with the lap belts them put my helmet on. Them pull the straps tight and hook the arm strap to the loop on the jacket.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Enderle fuel pump
« on: September 26, 2014, 09:15:25 PM »
Thanks for the response Spud. I loosened all the valves up and pushed the cam back and double checked the thrust bearing shims. Put the pump back in with some low strength locktight on the bolt. Fingers crossed because I'm taking it out this weekend.

Spud Miller's Cave / Enderle fuel pump
« on: September 26, 2014, 12:34:46 AM »
I recently bought used bug catcher on a ram intake. It was a just flowed by spud new pump and never ran. The pump is a enderle with a slip collar. After starting and running the car in the garage the pump slid back/ahead. I'm running a roller cam with a chain. I have the bearing and shims in there but it's like the cam walked out and pushed the pump out. Did I not have the pinch bolt tight enough? It's aluminum I don't want to strip it. Is this a common problem? I was thinking of positioning the pump and drilling a hole through the collar threading it and putting in a set screw also. Dose this sound like a good or bad idea?
Thanks for your help.
