Title: old28 saying hello
Post by: old28 on February 28, 2013, 09:36:33 PM

My name is Tom Welch, Bakersfield, CA. Would just like to say hello to everyone on the site. I have been racing Nostalgia Altered & FM Dragsters for 47+ years. Picture is of my altered that I sold a few years back to fund my new vintage dragster. The car was 125" WB, Mark Williams 9", 4.56 gears, PG, 33x14.5 Goodyears, 502 BBC injected on alcohol, Car was a N/E-2 8.50 index ride that went best of 8.05@160 off the index. Great car, lots of fun to drive.

I'm 67 years old and my rides are going slower as I get older. My new SDRA Vintage dragster runs low 13's with a 194 chevy 6 cylinder.

At my age it is all about just making passes and having fun with good friends. :)

Thanks for the great site.

Welcome to the forum Tom. Nice introduction, and nice rides! I'm passionate about inline-six engines, one day I may ditch the SBC 400 for a Chevy 250 (or... Ford 300). I have great level of intimacy with the 250, some with the 230 and 292, but haven't dealt with the 194.

Tim Jones -- Added a couple more pictures of the injected altered. Hope you like them. I sold this car about two years ago. It was a real fun ride, motor put out 875 HP.

ricardo1967 -- I posted the 6 cylinder motor car over on the FM Dragster forum with some pictures. A few guys in Pacific Northwest (Woodburn Raceway) are running the 300 Ford 6 and it will run low 11's in these vintage style dragsters with a single 4 bl carb. I want to build a high RPM 250 Chevy 6 that will turn 75 - 7800 RPM safley. The 194 was the first 3rd generation six with 7 main bearings. It has a small chamber 61cc head and can take sbc 1.94/1.60 valves with a little chamber work. The 250 & 292 work out better for a race motor with the small head. Main problem with building race 6 cylinder motors is the cost.
