Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Evac

I have always wondered about those evac systems even on gas carbed to the collectors? Doesn't the crankcase pressure need to have a breather on the inlet somewhere? I've seen two lines to the headers and no place for air to enter the system? Additionally why would breathing oil in front of the slicks be a good idea?

Thanks guys, you made my day. When in doubt use common sense (that is not so common anymore). I appreciate the time you took to share your wealth of wisdom.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Switched from alcohol back to gas
« on: April 26, 2017, 07:45:42 AM »
I bought a well used car that was running alcohol carburetion. The previous owner had left fuel in it all winter and made a mess of the carb. I put a gas carb on it and the motor loved it.
My question is this... the condensation that was trapped under the valve covers I took off and wiped out, pulled the plugs and spun it and left open to dry out, of course changed the oil and filter. Does any one have suggestions on anything I can do (short of freshening the motor) that might help flush the rest of the moisture and very slight milky oil?

Now that John brought it up, my understanding was that collectors would make more power on "naturally aspirated" engines. Zoomies were for blown applications. Where does that put the injected motors?
Thanks

1000hpJohn, Have you considered this car in Michigan? http://www.racingjunk.com/Nostalgia/182800881/FED-178-VERY-FEW-PASSES-FRESH-.html
I frequent this ad because the pictures looked like he keeps it in his living room, or maybe he just moved his living room into the garage.
On a more serious note I would be very interested in hearing any expert first thoughts on an ad?

Thanks for starting the thread John. I learned a ton with you, I am in a similar situation as I  have been shopping for my first FED. Unbelievably knowledgeable and patient posts from all of the contributors.
The biggest thing I am running up against is the majority of the cars I've looked at just weren't built for an NFL linebacker sized driver. The most important thing I have learned is that there is reasons for all of the bargain cars available and I will most likely have to really reconsider my budget.
We are still kicking our selves for missing out on few cars that were within a days drive but at same time very thankful now that we didn't hastily buy a few others that we would have most certainly regretted.
