Front Engine Dragsters / Cooling
« on: August 24, 2016, 04:28:37 PM »
Ok, got my shifter on it's way. Now on to the cooling system. What radiator are those of you that run water using? I'm going to be carbed on gas at least for a while. Plan to go stack injection on alky next spring, but in the mean time I'm going to need a decent radiator to cool the bbc.

I've started looking at shifters for my build. Just curious as to what some of you guys are using for powerglide shifters?

Front Engine Dragsters / Master cylinder

What bore size master cylinder works best on a FED? I'm using wilwood dynalite four piston calipers

Just fired the BBC in my dragster for the first time today, It acts like it had a giant vacuum leak. doesn't want to stay running I have closed the idle mixture screws completely and have the carb idle speed screws backed all the way out as well. I even tried taping the air bleeds off. It will stay running like that but is idling around 3,000 rpm with everything closed off? It's a 427 tall deck block. never decked. 1050 dominator on a victor tall deck intake, so no spacers between heads and intake.  I had to go with a .065 head gasket to compensate for a bit of positive deck height on the pistons. Is it possible that has raised the heads up enough that it could be sucking air around the intake manifold? or should I be looking at something else?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / bbc head gasket question
« on: May 14, 2016, 10:30:11 AM »
I'm working on getting the engine for my FED project wrapped up. It's a 4.375 bore 3.75 stroke engine. With steel rods. I was reusing some of my leftovers parts from other projects, and I have about .010 positive deck height on the pistons. So I'm trying to decide what thickness head gaskets I want. What do you feel is the minimum piston to head clearance that is safe?

Spud Miller's Cave / Stack injection and bracket racing
« on: February 05, 2016, 03:40:48 PM »
I've been thinking of using mechanical injection on my FED, but it will be used mostly as a bracket car. 511 BBC with a glide.  I have some experience with an enderle bird on a blower, but I have never dealt with any of the stack setups. Is it possible to get them to run consistent enough to bracket race without being driven insane along the way? And what would be the best to try, hilborn, kinsler or something else?

Front Engine Dragsters / what rear cam and gear with bbc
« on: January 01, 2016, 01:49:38 PM »
Hi, new guy here. I just bought a chassis from David Beard and I'm starting to gather parts for the build. I'm using what I had around for as much of it as possible. The engine is going to be a 511bbc, 4.375 bore x 4.250 stroke. Tall deck truck block. Ported cheapo pro-line heads. I'll be doing mostly 1/8 mile racing in my area. Looking for some cam and gear suggestions. I've drag raced off and on for years, but this is my first time running anything this lightweight. Thanks for any input
