Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: compression and bore increase hp gain?
« on: November 09, 2023, 04:40:19 AM »
511 was 4.378 with 4.25 stroke. My thinking is I can build it 15:1 and change gaskets for 13.5:. As for dome it is there no matter with a Hemi. Most of my compression gain will be in valve pockets I have a butt load of clearnace with pistons in motor  now. I think I can get to almost 14:1 with just more piston in that area, Heck right now with rods I have and pistons I had I am .020 down in hole which would be ,5 of it right there.

Oned thing about build most compression I can with .040 gasket is if lowering with gasket I move the whole chamber awa fro piston including top of dome, WOuld seem has to hel flame travel. Or so My therory goes.LOL

Question was bout power gain and if chance desktop dyno is correct in the 60 hp to 70 hp depending on how I work cam timing.

What is bore and stroke currently? I got lost following the numbers in your post. Also is this thing Blown Alky currently or just N/A? Other thing to consider is what is your realistic comfort zone on Max RPM on a run? Bore and stroke changes do make a difference on shape of power curve as does cam timing and head flow.

4.250 going to 4.310 or 4.375 bore/ Rpm not a concern motor use to be spun at 11.000 when had screw blower on it and these rods are better than one I had then. Not going 11k probably 8500 max but 9500 would not worry me.
Headflow is around 540 at .800 if memory serves. N?a but with nitro at times. Cam is 289/292 at .050 with .825 lift.
Stroke is 4.250 and may drop the 4.50 in,just not wanting to buy new rods at 1500 a set and have new set. Rods are .340 over stock and could drop back to .220 over if goin g to 4.50 crank and use same pistons. With big influx, I could just build both. Anybody have more than you need?LOL at 511 and 540 ci just need money.
Compression is 12:1 going to 15:1 with .040 gasket and dwon to around 13.5: with gasket changes.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / compression and bore increase hp gain?
« on: November 07, 2023, 05:05:41 PM »
I have been looking at increasing bore and compression for boost in power over the winter,

Yes I know I will not know how much it is worth w/o some solid runs this year. Few more chances to get that info left,

Going from 4.250 bore to 4.310 or maybe 4.375 with compression increase of 12:1 to 15:1. According to desk top dyno before pc died it is worth 60 to 70 hp. Rather I go with a .250 bigger crank is up in air since requires new rods and the ones in motor are about new. At 150o a set i rather not do both. I could reinstall old rods with 128 runs but that was my change-out point for those in blower motors.
.
So question is agree or disagree with the power gain from bore and increase in compression

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: how to seal header gaskets
« on: October 29, 2023, 04:27:14 PM »
Not sure you can get them for your headers. I use copper gaskets on my Hemi stuff. I have used the copper gasket maker by Permatex. Tip make sure it isd good a dry before firing or it will cover the side of the trailer and PIA to get off.

Word of caution. Running at home track seems to be my jinx right now. A track I tuned the first 3seond run at, Had track record of almost 9 years, Now every time I pull into the track something new decides to break.,

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / transmission cooler loc
« on: September 16, 2023, 04:46:19 PM »
Question for the guys running transmission cooler of FED., Location you have the cooler? I have mine under the seat in the rear of the car for multiple reasons, one of which bit me in butt this week. First and one that bit me. If had leak going down track it would not be in front of the tires. Second, is if the cockpit above transmission I was thinking heat off it would be unbearable. Remembering I hate heat,  One thing about in cockpit would be a lot less line. Amy leak would be captured by pig mat I run on floor pan i case of(thats is car not driver).
 So location of cooler?

Nice. Problem there would be chute and air solenoid mounted same spot, plus handbrakes and shut off right beside it.

Would never pwdercoat a chassis for above reason. I know I will be adding or changing something. With paint sand off. weld touch up paint done.

After a ton, heck 3 tons of stupid crap this year. I did make pass last night at T-N-T .  I will say a fed is totally different animal to back into place than a RED. Unforunately the stupid crap is still there hence one run. Nobody breaks a PTFE #10 oil line. Let's say that at 140 psi it does not take long to make a freaking mess and empty 10 quarts oil. I mean remove drain cap and nothing drips empty.

I can see were having a experienced backup person(a hot chick with big umm eyes and Daisy Dukes preferred) would be good thing.

Both can be made to work, I have always been set up for pull with lever mounted on brake handle.

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / transbake jerking
« on: August 14, 2023, 01:54:50 PM »
Fired casr off to check things over. When applied transbrake. and bringing rpm up. the rear tires were jerking violently and had hard chattering sound while doing so. The tires were moving in forward rotation. Would seem something in reverse either leaking. Looking into the valve to make sure not hanging out out of alignment. other ideas?

Spud Miller's Cave / MFI pressure
« on: August 05, 2023, 05:22:39 PM »
After chat with another member. I got to thinking about pressure on MFI system. I normally run around 150 at 4000 pump rpm. I do so by design. Got to wondering about smaller pumps ablity to with stand higher pressure system. I know of few who broke shafts on older enderle stuff. Most had larger pump than needed and guessing they might have broke  due to pressure cuased by jetting.

Also if have idea of safe pressure for dual gear DSR 7 gpm pump, ? Would like to know that too.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: controllinh rpm w/o 2 step.
« on: August 03, 2023, 12:17:31 PM »
I found na off delay piece that allows me to set time to delay the sle going off. Which is when it goes full throttle and runs up on 2 steps. My goal is to get it set so that the throttle goes full open about .5 or less before launch. I am going to try to setup using RPM computer digital readings. Ironic thing is only 30 bucks for it and been trying to figure this out for year.

First off with injection,I hate having barrel valve wide open and with K&R box you can not set apoint for it to open.It is preset at 1.1 before TB  release. Hat having engine mix cylinders and dropping cylinder with BV  wide open jsut seems wrong in too many ways. If could control throttle to say 3200 til .7 or less then let it go full bore and maybe hit 2 step at 5000 to 5600 I would be ok with it.

Front Engine Dragsters / controllinh rpm w/o 2 step.
« on: August 01, 2023, 05:47:11 PM »
Does anyone have a good system for controlling rpm w/o using the 2 step? I have a heavy tension stop that allows me to feel when the pedal is hitting it. It is adjustable. Not dead accurate. Probably two issues. The main one is diabetic neuropathy. The second is BV might need to be richened to take out some response. I tried setup 3 times today and the rpm was plus and minus 400, 800 swing got to be too much.

Open to suggestions, except use a two-step which I have and hate with a passion,
