Front Engine Dragsters / SPE steering box rebuild
« on: October 26, 2020, 07:33:57 PM »
ANyone rebuild spe steering box or at least have parts for them. Mine has butt load of slop and would like to get rid of it. If can't find parts I will be replacing it this winter, but there is long list of parts. Most wanted and few needed that I would rather put money to work on if can.

Tow Vehicles / trailer wax choice
« on: October 26, 2020, 04:49:46 AM »
Had cpl steaks starting on trailer and figured to head them off. Used a cleaner wax I use on trucks and worked fine. Wondering what most are using to protect trailer finish. Getting head start prepping for winter. Have trailer cover but huge PIA to get on and only use when its knowingly going to be sitting for month or more.

So what wax you love and which ones you hate. I use to love liquid glass until it became 40 bucks a can.

Front Engine Dragsters / Fed with front suspension
« on: October 23, 2020, 08:33:50 PM »
Not to derail Curly's thread on bounce. I have been looking at few front suspension ideas on RED's and possibly doing FED front end similar. With my chassis the front half( just past motor mounts) can be removed with 4 bolts. I like the diamond chassis front shock deal that is in middle of chassis. Thinking about building one this winter to try. Might do awya with top end bounce when getting off throttle in hurray. Not big deal for lots here but if bracket racing it could be. I know the purist are going to hate it. Sorry but I built car to run brackets and be different. Making it handle and work the best I can is my main goal.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Spud Miller's Cave / shift point with small load
« on: October 19, 2020, 05:05:17 AM »
Wondering if need to move shift point up little when running small load of nitro.
Knowing the stall will go up some, been told about 500 for 25%. Would moving shift up help with fall back. Example my car stall is 6600 ,so 7000 to 7100 with 25%. Normal shift is 7500. Would bumping it to say 7800 to 8000 help when it falls back to keep it where fall back is right at stall rpm? Any thoughts on stage rpm change?  Just me wondering stuff as always. LMAO

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / ATi vs Reid PG case
« on: October 12, 2020, 02:30:41 PM »
Going to have to get a legal transmission case. FI is out of stock. Jegs has cpl two piece as does summit. Trying to see if both have a BBM bell I can change out, Beats xxxx out of mid plate as adapter. Loosing 14lbs when swapping out this JW does not hurt anything,

Any real difference in ATI which summit has and Reid which jegs has?

Spud Miller's Cave / pump sizing for blower
« on: October 01, 2020, 05:48:21 PM »
Looking at ton of guys running blower in bracket now and getting good results. Wondering what size pump required. Pretty sure my 1200's off TA stuff little big.  Then my little 6.8 gpm DSR seems small for anything much over very mild 6-71.

Front Engine Dragsters / staying cool in summer heat
« on: July 19, 2020, 05:28:54 AM »
Has been a topic on other sites, figure hey might get some tips from guys here. I also figure we have a older group here than some other sites and has to effect us more than younger guys(lil punks). So what do you do or wear to help handle heat while wearing firesuit and sitting in small oven while straddling a heat filled trans mission.

Front Engine Dragsters / tire speed vs low gear ratio
« on: June 20, 2020, 08:47:30 AM »
Maybe my thinking is off base. After 7 months of job I am doing its highly possible.

Wouldn't a higher(lower number) ratio give you more wheel speed at the hit?Provided you have enough power to get it rolling. Part of another thread and did not want to derail it. I had advice from a old guy in Kansas not to go 1.80 low but rather the 1.69 low because of shake. Hard to argue with those guys. LOL  So far only shake I have had was from stupid tune.which goes back to under powered thing.Always a probleM. NEED MORE POWER!!!!!!!

Roo Man's Room / anti rotation connection
« on: June 13, 2020, 05:32:57 PM »
I don't guess there is any rule on how anti rotaion has to be bolted.
I need more ground cleartance. About only option is  lowering rearend and motor in chassis. I will nee to rework anti rotation which is wish bone under housing bolted to two tabs. I will have to remove tabs, welded bungs into middle rail under seat and bolt thru it. this will allow me to drop rearend 1" and get little more ground clearance at motor plate. I will also have to remount rearend which I hate but it is what it is. Lowering motor is no big deal except remaking motor front motor plates and cuttine and redrilling rear or m id plate.
I figure to get few more test in before heat get stupid hot and so rework whle it too dang hot out to be wearing a 20 suit and waiting on idiots to run a 500 hp car down a track they spend 10 minutes removing anything on it any where,

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / welded reverse clutches?
« on: June 10, 2020, 06:36:31 PM »
Ok. I take car out  last weekend.First time this year because of over blown virus crap. Car does long hard burnout, backs up fine. I stage and when I let go car moves but feels more like moped than a race car. I hit throttle shove 2nd and roll on down track.Go back to pits.Look things over.Appears  cable out of adjustment and car might have been in between low and high. Second runa bout the same excpet less go.

I get home and once I get it down only thing hurt is reverse clutch pack,By hurt I mean it is nasty black and welded together. Its not low gear band and that is 150 bucks good thing. Its not high gear clutches, probably because I have two full spare sets. I knew I should have bought spare reverse clutches.

So how the xxxx did I fry reverse?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / HP build level
« on: May 09, 2020, 05:07:14 AM »
Reading thru some old post and noticed a lot had a HP rating on various pieces. WOndering how most approach this.

You can build a 700 hp piece using stuff rated for say 800 Hp,but have choices of higher rated piece.

Cranks are one example. Transmission p[arts is big example.

Me like to buy most over rated part I can afford and most of time stretch the afford if it will destroy other parts or my car.

My motor is kind of example. Its old parts(almost new stuff) that was designed for fuel cars 20 years ago. As strong as TF stuff now no.Stronger than most 1000 hp motors by a long shot. I almost feel guilty using it such low power out put. Only doing so because I could afford it.Two short blocks sitting in corner aging is pretty cheap.Plus old technology brings 20 cent on dollar and not buying much of a crank for 600 bucks. LOL

Front Engine Dragsters / nitro supply and price
« on: April 12, 2020, 06:28:05 AM »
Wondering how all the tension with China is or will be affecting the supply of nitro and the price of it. To my understanding(maybe off) all of our  Nitro comes from China. Hopefully bad information on that. If true is time somebody start up a production facility here. The crap with toilet paper we need our nitro people.

Roo Man's Room / cable thru chassis
« on: April 05, 2020, 03:00:04 PM »
Going to have to ut remote power shut off on car, rules are rules. Would like to run thru upper right part of main hoop dow to fron of motor and to switch which is about 18" foward of motor.

Question is if I weld a tube in hoop just past radius and run cable thru it then exit in front of motor thru upper tube  and place a what ever you call the piece around opening to keep tube from failing.Have brain fart right now. Is that legal? I know spec stops at mid plate just wondering about opening in main hoop with tube welded into it.
