Front Engine Dragsters / Firesuit
« on: July 06, 2023, 01:49:51 PM »
While book requires a 20 suit. I will not be racing any events and looking for something I can stand heat in. Thinking a 15 is more than need for alky injected engine. Wonder what most here are wearing. I asked same thing on DRR.With most everyone ther having RED it is different world in a way than here where we all have the engine in front of us. Then real mean have power out front and other get it in rear (new T shirt I am working on). LOL

Front Engine Dragsters / New tri drive for FED
« on: May 24, 2023, 10:46:23 PM »
Well I broke the  belt drive sytem last time out. So got wild hiar to build something little stouter. About $150 bucks and ungodly mount of hours on mill and lathe. I have a Gear driven(motorcycle gears) mag, fuel pump and vacuum pump drive, Seems wot work great.only a few pass' will tell the story. Bad thing is I have found bunch of ways to improve and build easier. The fact the gears I bought came in set of 3 and none same size so bought two set and now have two more sets of gears. Not immidiate plan but a new improved version is to follow.

Spud Miller's Cave / enderle nozzles to drop in
« on: February 05, 2023, 08:38:17 AM »
So changine my old Enderle nozzles to drop in. few reasons, mainly work with few TA/D trams running A/Fuel and everyone using them. Just makes sense to have compatible stuff in box.Makes sense but not dollars.

Wondering if anyone knows the flow difference.I have read that drop in suff normally flows 10 to 15% more. One or the other easy to figure .Huge difference in 10 or 15.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Who builds own engine
« on: January 17, 2023, 09:28:33 AM »
I have noticed that majority of racres seem to buy engine instead of build themselves. Now nothing wrong with that and my be better in log run.

I know when I started racing in 1985 there was two or three guys who bought enignes and the rest built or had abuddy who did. Now days it seems almost the exact oppisite. For me if not for building engine and most of time the whole car I would not have much interest in racing. I actually enjoy building and tuning more than driving. driver is just there to prove tune up works and engine makes power. LOL With that said I was told long time ago by Alan Satrr never put brains, talent and money in one spot. I have obey that few times but broken more.

Wondering since mostly older racers here. How many build your own engine, trans, rear ends ,chassis and or combo of?

Spud Miller's Cave / under driving a pump
« on: November 27, 2022, 07:51:48 AM »
Is anyone running a mech. pump with an under drive. I have a 7 GPM pump on the car now. NA 482 ci. Sin ce bypassing about half the fuel I was wondering about underdrive for pump bypass less and running at lower pump rpm has to be easier on the pump. Now how to figure fuel system. Using Spud's calculator. If use 10% drop in fuel flow I have chart that shows it looks like would expect. How accurate with a lot of assumed and no real flow bench info?

Jon's Wheel House / run around system build
« on: November 09, 2022, 05:18:37 PM »
Looking at a site on run around system for trans cooler. Looks pretty simple. You tap into passage tha allows cirulate thru converter. .. I am thinking about doing one with a fan mounted over old ac coil and using 12 high pressure fuel pump to pump fluid from pan thru coil with fan and thru conveter back to pan thru system. Is there a rreason I am missing that this will not work same as high dollar system with everything mounted on car? Using quick couplers and doing it in this manner would save weight and take a minute or less to hook up. It could be taken to staging if needed and used while in line if needed extra cooling

Front Engine Dragsters / Partnerships for racing operation
« on: November 06, 2022, 07:41:25 AM »
Figure a few here have had or do have a partnership race deal.

I have a fellow wanting to possibly do a deal where he supplies money for entry, travel and some of the cost for running car. I supply car trailer, truck maintain car, parts for car. He wants to attnde some races and work on car some and get company exposure so it is tax write off too of coarse,

While I am not craZY ABOUT IT IT WOULD CLEAR ONE obstacle of running the car more and allow me to get some parts I want for the car and a few backup parts. I think keeping ownership of all parts and pieces seperate is a plus in case shyt happens.

If you have had a partner in racing good or bad lets chat some. If you have not your opinion will be taken at face value to speak

Front Engine Dragsters / 7.0 and nitro
« on: October 08, 2022, 06:43:09 AM »
Since legal and cheap(ha ha ha) power. Wondering if any in 7.0 NE are running nitro to get them to 7.0. I figure my combo shoule be good for 7.0 or very close.I know if need I can run 30% with no changes except maybe converter. I do not think would need that much nitro to get little I might need.

So you know of anyoner running small loads to make a field?

Front Engine Dragsters / A/fuel funny car
« on: August 25, 2022, 06:41:34 AM »
A/fuel funny cars coming to NHRA race near you. So other than butt load of gripping and whinning come just like TA/D. What your toughts on new rules allowing A/fuel funny car in Top Alcohol  Funny Car class?

personally, I think it will much needed boost for class. Class has had short field for most race for past cpl years. The complaining will come as soon as one two get handle on hooking cars up and down track under power.the same way it was when IHRA allowed this and Scott Wiess switched. Everything fine till he wnet .2 quicler than second qualifier.

Spud Miller's Cave / mfi issue
« on: August 08, 2022, 08:12:01 PM »
Been having xxxx of time with this MFI on FED. Normally I know nwhat I am doing with MFI, use to be pretty good at it.This sytem has me pulling out the hair mother nature has not taken yet.

Simple or should be a system. First had primer system feeding fuel at idle by pulling fuel thru pump and poppet. Fixed with a solenoid that opens only when the pump is on. The bad part I had it idling and super crisp. But extra fuel meant BV setting junk. Now having an issue with bv, but that is just tuning.

Two possible problems.Once the main fuel line seems very soft at cpl points and can see if being sucked shut. Which might explain that even when bv is close it stumbles at higher rpm when esasing into throttle. Second one I am questioning is filter placement. One of FIE's with 10 inlet and outlet. Thinking might be an issue when rpm has pump pulling or trying to pull more fuel. I know with lot of pumps restriction on suction will kill performance of pump alot more than a restriction on the discharge side. Thoughts on both or either causing rough stumbling when bringing rpm up.

Front Engine Dragsters / rack and pinion in FED ?
« on: July 11, 2022, 06:44:13 PM »
Ok purist calm down. LOL Looking at doing something different next winter and researching parts.  I want to build suspension for front of dragster. One prblem would be drag link. I can make a pivot at same point as chassis, which may or may not work. I can use a rack and pinion set up, running steering rod down side similar to drag link and thru tube in tank to a rack and pinion which I think will eliminate the problem all together. We are not talking oving 2 inches or nothing I figure inch at best for chassis. I have tested it on FED and it does move wheel ever so slightly and may or may not be issue. 150 or so is not were I want to find out.. I know it is not period correct or anything like it. I am bracket racing and driving the stripe and hitting brakes is part of it. Not to mention cpl local tracks suck on top end.

Question have any of you had a fed with rack and pinion and thoughts on ratio. Asking about ratio because i seem to remember that was issue that Garlits changed that made rear engine drivable.
