Spud Miller's Cave / Port Nozzle Design
« on: March 23, 2017, 12:55:31 PM »
Anyone familiar with this port nozzle holder design?

The square cuts are on both sides and they vent up into where the nozzle screws in.

Spud Miller's Cave / Super Mag V

Is an older Super Mag V that was souped up to 7+ amps with dual capacitors and has the old MSD cap adapter worth running.

It would need the rotation changed for my application and I assume it has the older points.

Thanks Spud

As usual your experience is appreciated and causes me to take a step back and re-evaluate my though processes.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Spud Miller's Cave / Volumetric Eff. % of an Engine
« on: February 09, 2014, 11:49:14 AM »

How do you decide the V.E. % of an engine?

The injected fuel engine I am putting together is 358 c.i. ex-Nascar engine. 410 cfm on intake, 300 on exhaust, titanium intakes, inconol exhaust, roller cam & bearings, Jesel valvetrain & belt drive, so I assume it will be higher than 105 VE.

Computing the the fuel flow numbers can change quite a bit when I change the VE % and I am not sure what value to input.

Thanks again

That's good to know.

There are two schools of thought anymore. 300+ and Just Enough.

I tend to agree with the Just Enough theory.

Thanks for your time.

What springs do you recommend for your SBC Nitro Cam?

Seat pressure?

I believe you told me you ran 20# check-valve down nozzles on your car.

Does that mean they are non-aspirated?

Whose did you go with?

Spud Miller's Cave / Transmission Gear Ratio

I know you run a Powerglide, but if you were to run a Crowerglide and Lenco 2 speed, what ratio would you start with on your combo?

I have 1.31, 1.44 and 1.56 available to me.

And given those options, would you still run the 2.91 rear gear or.....?

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: Cam Driven Oil Pump

Matt

It's the Dodge R5 engine they used in Nascar.

Ain't nothing common on this engine.

The CNC shop I use for parts that I sell can deal with the brackets, just wanted to make sure I was not missing something by going the cam driven route.

Thanks for the input.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Cam Driven Oil Pump
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:23:12 PM »
The sprint car guys run the oil pump off of the front of the cam. You can also run a fuel pump off of the front of the oil pump.

Some say this transfers harmonics to the valve train and transfer heat to the fuel pump.

Whatcha think?

The reason I ask is my block has no provisions for an oil pump and I would like to do a crank mounted starter on a A/fuel deal. (removable)

I really don' t want to do a dry sump, rather a single stage wet sump and a belt drive pump would probably be in the way of the starter set-up.

Since I will be starting from scratch, in your opinion, which of the three mag drive couplers seems to be the best?
