Front Engine Dragsters / Re: My dads gate

It use to have a set of zoomies on it until one of my dads customers had to buy them for his boat. The other front wheel was damaged by a Cat while it was sitting in a field (former owner).

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: First passes with a clutch

I put the 3-speed in the car as I really do not fit into a class such as A-fuel or the such due to blower and fuel pump size. I just figured that with my SBC I would be struggling a little to a run a 2-speed.

My combo is 387ci 4.125x3.625 with Brodix canted valve heads. I ran this engine in the car for years with a powerglide and a 8-71HH Littlefield and a powerglide, the best pass to date was a 6.64 @ 206 W/4.11 gears 4%OD we swapped out the 4.10's and put in 3.70's to drop the RPM's across the finish line it slowed the car down a little but less maintenance spun the blower a little harder 12%od to run consistent 6.70's.

Now we decided to switch to a clutch to have some adjustability for slick tracks. I bought a 9" 3-disk titanium pedal clutch from East West. The transmission is a B&J 3-speed w/1.94 low gear. We also changed blowers this season to a 10-71HH SSI that needs to be re-stripped, I put a very fat fuel set up in the car just to be safe in case the blower made more boost than I assumed. I only made two passes this weekend we had a rain out. Our next race is in three weeks I am going back to a fuel tune up I know works with the boost I built this last weekend to see if I can bring some ET back.

Front Engine Dragsters / First passes with a clutch
« on: April 28, 2014, 11:14:15 AM »
Finally made it out to the track first pass with a clutch was quite a bit smoother. First pass ran a 6.95 @ 202 with a .058 light second pass was a 6.98 @ 201 with a .066 light. Had only .004 wear on the clutch pack each pass zeroed it out but made zero changes. Now I need to lean it out some as it was way to fat!

Thanks to Andi and Larry McFarland for the pic

What HP level, MPH, tire size, and RPM's are you going to spin the engine

when I ran injected alky 8.20-40's in my FED I ran 4.30's and 31x11 tire

Sounds like you have another internal leak other than your bearing clearances. I run .0035 mains and .004 rods and have ran all different kinds of oil pumps on my blown SBC with zero oil pressure issues. This includes in my earlier years running a Melling M55 oil pump which is the cheap off the shelf you would install in a daily driver. I am currently running a billet pump wet sump cannot remember the brand name but not a Titan. I run Valvoline VR50 oil 70/80lbs at an idle

Don Long has complete records of all the cars that he built along with original invoices. A lot of his cars have been checked off the list as to where they are now and the ones that have been destroyed. Call him with the particulars to see where it fits on his list. He charges a small fee for invoice copies, but well worth it.   310-323-4511 best time is late afternoon CA time

paint does not meen anything-- wheel base, motor possision, wings and cannards, hanna body, Nancy interior, His front wheels (offset rim),brakes, things like that show up on his invoice- all those little things nail the ID

that is amazing he kept those records all this time!
