Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Pump speed V delivery
« on: November 22, 2021, 02:18:21 PM »
Running pump slower is fine. It is not linear but close to amount slowed. Only way to know exact would be flow test. If dropping 10% on 7 gpm pump you would loose about .7 gpm. Never slowed one down but have sped them up and they followed that so only stands to reason it will work same. You could just run a pump sizer which basically is just a jetted line to bypass x amount of fuel. Would be easy to adjust and changes are just a jet, spring or shim in a poppet.

You probably need a site like Imgur or similar that you download pic to then you can upload them on other sited. As for coaching,me helping would be deaf, dumb and blind leading the blind.LOL

In the big show cars 13.5 and up. We have two sets of pistons the bigger ones where bought because previous owner had Prock helping and he wanted every.1 he could get. Not sure about nostalgia A/fuel,.

Lots say I am Certified oh wait that is certifiable. Not harldy on welding. I do fair job.Yes I knew the thick first.Mn it takes some heat to get the the 3/4 melting.I did cut a groove into plate, set tube into it.Giving me a edge to melt first that has to flow to the tube and it helps.

Well if short turn close to head burns threw we will  know shortly. Just got tubes in.Since these are test run and I could not get 120* bends and 135* looks like shyt. I bought 180 bends and cut them iin half. SO its a 85 dollar gable. Man welding 3/4" ti 1/8 tibe w/o blowing threw is nerve racking.  Hey 1t almost 20 lbs difference when all piece where here to weigh I will try it. Hey aluminum lug nuts hold the wheels on a TF car and someone had to be first to try that too. LOL

Agree 100%. At the same time exhaust is hanging out in the wind at a good rate of speed. While at idle most MFI runs on the rich side. Very little restriction on zoomies, well no restrictions. Hey I may very well melt them, but figure at most it will be a hole in them. Can always throw the heavy steel units back on.

Question/ What would you think has higher heat. Piston or exhaust tube? I am not saying there is noway I could melt the tubes down. If there is a way to destroy it I can usually find it when 25 others can not. No way the he11 I will try it attitude has anything to do with it.

THOSE LONG TUBE HEADERS HAVE TO HAVE LOT MORE VIBRATION  than a short set of zoomies would ever see.  Tubing should be here mid week.New set on by weekend and good amount of testing in drive. If weather allows local track has a TNT the next weekend and plans are to test car and aluminum zoomies will be on it. If I get any shake it will be good test and that seems to be easy to get right now NLOL.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / weight change before rebalance
« on: October 23, 2021, 10:22:25 AM »
How much weight change before you rebalance crank. New rods .020 shorter but heavier on small end. Big end almost same .By almost I mean less than 10g. Small end on other hand is 240g old rods 275g on new rods. My thought is I can probably get most of it off pistons or at least half of it. One reason I will be putting another set in later anyway. Probably heavier than ones in motor since .125" bigger Would rather do that than grind on new set of $1500 MGP rods. Guessing difference is billet rod just denser material and heavier. If matters its billet crank also. Motor will probably rarely see 8000 rpm and if so will be brief flash . New pistons might be a while since nobody has anything to make parts out off just like cam guys have no cores to grind. Unfreaking believable. Thanks Joe Idiot.

Piston, rings, pin and rod weigh 1955 total 35 more than old combo.  Pistons are not heavy but not lite. Thinking I can get maybe half that back there.Small end of rod shows biggest difference in two rods.  Ig can get 15 or so grams off then only about 15 to 20 off old and thats right at 1% ,which I would think would be non issue, might be wrong. Nobody local I would trust to balance this crank and KB doesn't do cranks anymore from my understanding. Plus KB was bought out few years back and another group running it.

My heads have 3/4" aluminum plates that are port matched and extend the ports and increase flow.Plan is to weld tubes to them, strap tubes togetehr and run strap bacl tp plate.Same design as a set of fuel car headers.

As long as I do not blow them off and run over them it is just experiment.Spent lot more trying something. Some worked out and some are on shelf.

huge portion of turbo guys are running aluminum piping, lot hotter. Heat coming out of exuast just came off top of a aluminum piston. I guess we are about to find out. Only about 125 of tubing and few hours with welder to see if works. If so its 14 lbs off car.
