Here is Ethan setting up the pumpkin with guidance from Greg Larson.  Also, mocking up the trans coupler arrangement

A couple years back, on the tow home from the ET Finals my son Jack said he was done racing Jrs with all the kids.  It was time to hang them up and build a big car.  The choice was obvious, build an NE2 dragster.  Basically a trip back to 1977 for me, back when my dad and I ran a B/MD ran at Neita, Cordova, Rockford and Cordova.

We started with an S&W kit and did the build in the garage with help from my older son's buddy who is a welder over at Camp Pendleton.  I will post pictures and updates so that you can share the excitement with us.  Here we go!

First order of business is to get you up to date on the progress.  Let's start from the beginning.  Say tuned...

What you are stating does not compute:

This calculator is pretty reliable.  I would probably run a 4.11 gear if I were you.  Again, do the math.  I would be looking at your converter!

We are going with collector headers on our NE2 build.  This is how we did it back in the 70s.  I would rather run a vacupan then a smog pump that is for sure.  Zoomies do look cool,  but crankcase pressure is something that needs to be addressed.

I'm following this thread.
Most of us are bracket racing. I use tubes because every time I opened the trailer door one or both slicks would be soft or flat.
Tubes fixed that but I'm always wanting to get more out of our stuff.
Thanks: Matt

The Carl Munroe book is a great book. It goes from stock rebuild to race modifications. Great tool

I would lose those diagonals!  Sheldon Gecker gave me the same advise at the winternats one time after watching my pitiful attempt at a quick tranny swap and lifting the dang thing rather than dropping it out the bottom

Drop it out the bottom, easy peasy.  Use studs on the block.  Unbolt the converter and zip tie the converter to the trans.  Pull coupler, tb wire and linkage.  Remove nuts from studs, slide the whole thing back and ease it to the ground.  Done!  You can use straps to go around the unit to grip and lower it to the ground.

Got a fair deal with the on-line purchase from Strange.  Good to deal with!  The are shipping everything today except the axles.  Custom order 4 weeks.  Good to Go!

BTW - Went with the US Strange 4.29s...

Thanks,
Eric
