Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Exhaust temp questions
« on: August 08, 2014, 05:02:52 AM »
We read egt's in each pipe and launch close to 1000 deg.
By the end of a quarter mile run they're about 1300.
We have the air bleeds  that install under each butterfly so it's easy to tweak the temps so they're all equal at launch.

Wow.
Good thing the motor blew up after that.
I heard a story like this that happened to a woman at Tulsa raceway.
Her dragster blew over and headed back to the starting line and killed somebody.

I agree with Jon.
To make ours a/nd all we'd have to do is replace heads and injectors.
Not to mention the money spent trying to make b/nd heads flow good.

This was what happened to a fellow member of SWJFA when his transmission cooler line broke on the launch.
Could have been a lot worse.
Mine is looped with no cooler

Pull the water plugs on each side of the block and go race.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Injection tubes
« on: May 14, 2014, 10:01:19 AM »
We run 2-3/4 diameter hilborn and used the stock length tubes for a little while but ended up cutting them till they are only sticking up about 2"
We never saw any kind of gain or loss playing with stack length but our combo is probably a little different than most.
This statement is straight from hilborns website:
Since horsepower gains of 5% to 10% are average for a system with ram tubes we strongly recommend using them on all models. The longer the ram tube length, the more low-end torque. The shorter the length, the more top-end torque

I've never checked the runout of a wheel before. How do you do it?
 Sorry for my confusion.

I just made the first race of the season (6 passes) with a brand new set of 2585's that had at least 5/8" difference and everything was fine.

12
Quarter mile is 8400+-
That's not too high in jr fuel though. Some shorter stroke motors cross at well over 10. Maybe pushing 11
I've talked to guys that have 7" converters that stall over 8000!!!
All boils down to $$$

We run a powerglide with a 1.69 first gear.
4.30 gear in a 12 bolt.
Goodyear 2585 31x12
I use to leave off of a transbreak and 2step but found that my 60' times are way better when I swap feet at first sight of amber. 1.07 - 60'

That was Rick Huckabee's dragster. He used to run jr fuel with it.  I didn't know he sold it. Has a really cool joker airbrushed on the cowl.
