Ive had a PJ gear drive in several different experimental builds of my drag race 9000+ rpm SBC combos from a N2O 327 to a Alcohol 434 and its always been perfectly in time and ran great. No issues. Would you reuse a CHAIN SET?? All the negative hype is from spode lipped mommas boys that's mom oiled their bike chains for them growing up, so today they are just plain scared of those crazy gears. Some things requires skillset that's outside of the typical magazine certified builder. Set it up right and it will run forever.

Check how tight the 1206 fits in there, if your heads were milled, and intake face is not correct you might check a 1266 which is double thick, if they are out of whack, the thick gasket will fail as well, but sometimes its enough to get them aligned and tightened up.

I think the aluminum block takes the center cylinder heat better than any Iron block. The Iron gets Hot and stays hot. Aluminum dissipates that heat. Make sure you feed the center cylinders a bit more fuel to keep them happy, youll get several more runs out of the head gaskets compared to Iron. Just my .02c.

Thanks for the clarifications about filtering and frequency. That more or less shot holes in my theory like a browning 19a3. Lol.
I picked up a Auto Meter Pro Control for Rev limiting - I’m not sure if that’s solid state or not. I’d like to get the most power out of the Mag I can but it doesn’t look like I can get away from the helical suppression wires.

Chris I have not been blowing mine out at 20 percent but I do pull all the plugs and turn it over with the fuel shut off pulled !
Good man, wedge motors need windmilled, some guys just don’t see that a Hemi is the only motor that will clean out by backing down.

I cringe at the thought of putting a “suppression wire” of anyone’s claimed “low ohm” making on any Mag. It’s literally Stone Age thinking.

Seems there could just as easily be a properly tuned “noise filter” applied to the power strip / source for all the other 12v devices, data recorder, tach, etc, that would be able supply clean 12v power without stealing output from the mag to the plug.  Anybody have electrical know how that can add to this idea???

I’ve had the same feelings. Not sure what’s happening, it looks like Sunoco has the NHRA bid at this time and as far as anyone I’ve seen knows that Yes it’s all made in China.

I would bet that the real issue is that the EPA, ABCDEFG name them all govt agencies under the Manchurian Candidate created red tape has made it nearly impossible to make Nitro in the USA.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: Dual-Idler gear drives

Has any one ever used this setup on a sbc.How good did it work, and for how long.I have never used one and just would like some histroy
It’s actually more like “who hasn’t used” one of the dual idler drives. I broke a double roller chain in the 80’s and bought a dual idler PJ gear drive and have installed that same gear set in EVERY one of my personal Drag Motors which have been from 327,355,357,372,406,408 now 434 in a Rodeck block. It started out on the street and later made several hundreds of logged 1/4 mile passes over 8000 rpm with roller cam, for 25 years. Latest assignment now running in the 8’s in a altered. So if you hear stories about them being junk? I’d employ some skepticism of that persons experience, and wonder if they bought chinesium.

What I have is an Older Rodeck. Std size Babbit SBC cam Brgs. The Liners are worn .030. Would clean-up @ .035. The rear cap is a dry Sump. Main Caps-Studs and nuts-washers are there also. The block has some damage from a rod-s failure in #1 ad #2. Was run like this. Asking 750.00 plus shipping from Ohio. Block has Rodeck 350 Plus cast into front. Mains are 400 size.

Did you sell this block?

New to the page, and saying hello. Glad to be here. I was born and raised in Alaska. I guess it all started once I figured out what my dads tools were for, being around him and his buddies B/Gas Anglia. After that nothing was safe or sacred. I’m a “Stock Sucks” kind of guy and Been modifying and rebuilding everything with a motor ever since. I guess the hot rods and growing up as a kid in a heavy equipment repair shop, over the years I’ve collected up a small scale engine machine shop that I consider my retirement plan. I guess I have built too many cars to list here and my current project list is longer than my 9 acres of yard can hold. Lol. So ill keep it quick.

My current car is my first “skinny car” after 25+ years racing door slammers I got back probs and wanted a soft-tail front engine car with no fenders!! So I picked up a 125” 32 Bantam 4-link 9” rear end - built by Peytons in TX, had been a world champ car in Rockingham about 2006. Right now it’s set up with a Rodeck 434 on Alcohol and a Stock parts 1.76 Glide w/Brake and Chance 9” converter. I have made a handful of shakedown passes and still getting things sorted out. There’s my oldest Boy on the left and his wife, myself and my youngest boy on the right. Missing is my middle son, who’s currently serving the country in Okinawa. 🇺🇸
