Title: setup to simply transmission removal
Post by: wideopen231 on October 05, 2021, 07:58:27 AM
Well time was I would pull trans in second just to look at something. Never was issue and easy as xxxx. Nowdays the transmissions are getting heavier even after money I spent on aluminum pump, aluminum valve body, lighter case, lighter pan, lighter bolts and anthing else to shave a once off. Either that or I am getting old.Nope thats not it. got to be heavier.

Wondering if any of you have a slick setup for making it easier for us highly mechanical educated fellow to pull trans. Sound better than us old body worn to xxxx from abuse guys.

That's too bad because my Lenco still weighs the same.  ;D

Drop it out the bottom, easy peasy.  Use studs on the block.  Unbolt the converter and zip tie the converter to the trans.  Pull coupler, tb wire and linkage.  Remove nuts from studs, slide the whole thing back and ease it to the ground.  Done!  You can use straps to go around the unit to grip and lower it to the ground.

Studs in block are kind of std on this deal. I have one at top center that is little longer to help plac e it during install. Dropping out bottom not as easy with diaganols in chassis.

Been trying to design a craddle that will allow me to slide trans back and pisck up or sit dwon and slide forward. Hoping someone had a design I could cheat and work off of.LOL

I would lose those diagonals!  Sheldon Gecker gave me the same advise at the winternats one time after watching my pitiful attempt at a quick tranny swap and lifting the dang thing rather than dropping it out the bottom

I second lose that diagonal, wrong place for it, in the bay behind the transmission is OK, but not where you want to drop the tranny, unless it is removable style.

My diagnols are removable and they are behind trans enough to allow dropping past them. They are issue with building a cradle.  Picking up is easier than wrestling down and out. Plus crossbar is bolted in and flips to right with one quick pin.

Yes been a while since I checked thread/
