Title: Front Tire Change
Post by: spitzerscott on September 13, 2019, 10:06:17 AM
What am I looking at to change the front tires on our dragster?  We have the 22x2.5x17, can we change these by hand or do we need something special?

Ifs its a modern rim and tire, I prefer have it done on a machine that grabs the rim, too old to chase the rim around the floor using spoons and the tires have stronger beads and the rim seats are taller. Wire wheels and Avons you can install by bare hands

Money well spent. They are a bear to change with tire irons. Unforgiving side wall and stiff bead plus the valve stem on the narrow rim can be problematic, depending on the rim profile.

doing a leak test today, I may have a bad valve stem seal on the inside of the rim.

Very common.  Wonder if silicone skim on the seal would make them last longer.  It's frustrating having it leak.

Yes, take anything but an AVON (moped tire style) to a machine.  I've fought the fight, it sucks.

Tires and rims should be tubeless style,   tubes are for spoke rims unless the tires are old and shot
