Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Copper Head Gaskets
« on: September 21, 2013, 11:25:10 AM »
Is there a copper head gasket that is better than the rest. I don't need the ability to seal water passages because I run my BBC dry.
Thanks

Front Engine Dragsters / Rear wheel width on a FED
« on: September 11, 2013, 11:06:11 AM »
Is there any advantage in changing from a 10" wide wheel to a 12" wide wheel? I'm currently running  a 33x12 Hoosier on a 10" wheel and need to replace the wheels.

Thanks

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Main Bearing Issues
« on: May 26, 2013, 09:23:10 PM »
These main bearings came out of my 467 BBC, injected, methanol, FED at 8.20's / powerglide. #3 and #4 sets came out of same rotating assembly as #1 did but #1 (1 pass) was in a 4 bolt block. #3/#4( 3 passes/4 passes) were in a previous 2 bolt block. Main bearing clearance was .0035". Rod bearing were good. The GM steel crank came out of a running engine and the bearings were very good. I used different rods, pistons, etc and had the assembly balanced. Balanced wrong??

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Changing the bob weight after balancing

Are there limits to how much you can add or subtract, primarily to the piston weight, after it has been balanced without rebalancing? Example: cut valve reliefs deeper on a bbc @ 7,000 rpm?

Spud Miller's Cave / Taller gears for nitro?
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:41:22 PM »
Hi Spud,
This is not directly about fuel but related. My question is about gear ratio. I will be setting up with methanol and then switching to nitro. Should not take too many passes for this. I ran 4.10's last year but have 3.89's . It seems like your progression has been taller as you added more juice. Will 25% be that sensitive to more load?
(FED/BBC 466 Stack Hilborn  33x12 tires)
Thanks
