Title: short or full body
Post by: wideopen231 on April 01, 2013, 03:38:54 PM
Im thinking of building both short and full body for my FED. I love the look of the full body and car is mostly bracket deal. But alos think the bare bones basic of short body look like Im here to be fast and thats it  is pretty cool too. Besides the short boddy can't use more than sheet and half of aluminum if that much.

Which body do you prefer and why?

I had a shorty body on my '68 Woody Gilmore fed, but Scotty Parks made a full body chute pack body for the chassis a friend of mine built that will be home to a blown and injected 392 that is just beautiful!

I have the a full body, the looks are outstanding and I run it that way at special events,

but only run the back half normally as it is a pain to remove the front part for between round maintanance.

It's nice to have the option.

Kind of have same plan as Glen. We are building two bodys. In all honesty the short body cost almost nothing ,except little extra paint and about 80.00 in aluminum. trying to decide about the chute body rear.Love the look, but if going with short body I might as well go for extra light weight,2 sides, cowl and 2 beside motor maybe 1.25  to 1.5 sheets of .040,until can afford carbon fiber parts.

I like the look of short bodies, a digger should not be ashamed of its frontal skeleton or the support elements there mounted...

Well said.
Ours doesn't have the body pieces under the motor. Figure if its extra weight and possible drag, why have it. Just a big ol diaper hangin out there. I think it looks cool and its a lot easier for inspection and diaper removal

Always been a fan of 1/2 body cars.  mine ends under the motor, more room for sponsor stickers. :)  nothing forward of the motor, unless i have the front wing on, then i have a couple feet of alum between the front wheels.

I like the short body on small block cars less weight and less maintenance between rounds.
If your a T/F car from the 60 then I prefer a full body.

I like the short body. although I do have a side panels that extends about 3' from the front of the engine. that's enough. anymore and I would probably lose them in my garage.  ;D

I've yet to own a FED, so I'm not an expert.  As a hopeful future owner and a life long fan I love them both and look at them in a Rock and Roll frame of mind.

A Full Body is like going to an Elvis Concert........Great Showmanship and Unmatched Talent you'll remember forever!

A Half Body, Open Frame is like going to see George Thorogood........A Screamin Banchee, No Frills, Hard Rockin, Lets git it done show and hopefully I won't get arrested on the way home!

That may sound weird but thats the way I think. :o

Mr Froggy nice way of looking at it.On the Elvis view pretty deadon. Now in my view tha later would be Ted Nuget.Think old Ted show with loin cloth and bow and arrow, bare bones basics only. Elvis was there to put on show with lots of flash thrown in,actually went to one of concerts in 1974  I was 8 at the time.

wideopen231, you have a good point about Terrible Ted.   I've never had the pleasure of seeing "The Nuge" but have seen Lonesome George 5 times and he always comes outa the gate at 100 MPH with a no frills band and never lets up.

But the loin clothe defininitly takes it to the next level.  I guess you could say, Ted takes an injected Hemi and bolts on a blower!

Yeah, well George's prominent dialogue was how much of a badass he was as an infant, and he progressed to drinking alone, all by himself. The later song was the better one. When I raced dirt karts, KT-100 class, and they ran the "Outlaw Sprint" karts, with 250-500 cc motorcycle engines, and wings, the track used to play that B B B Bad to the Bone song any time they were on the track, or about to be on the track, or during cautions, and after the finish, for AWHILE. Irritated the SH*& out of me to hear it. Still does.
