Title: slicks?
Post by: crider on October 23, 2016, 03:54:22 PM
I see a lot of talk on here about the 2585 goodyear slicks, But I notice most of the talk is on jr. fuel cars and such that are making a good bit more hp than I am. I'm looking to purchase some new slicks for my build and I was wondering if they would be good for a bracket FED or if there is something else that will work well for me. My car is a 178" david beard chassis with a 526 BBC and a glide. 5,000 rpm converter with 4.20 gear. Going to be doing mostly 1/8 mile runs. Thanks for any input from those of you have some seat time in one these cars

This Hoosier has worked well for our FED: Part number 18225 31.0/12.0-15* . I think it is about #30.

Just got a set of the 18225 and they weigh just under 27lbs each if that helps at all.

Ditto the Hoosiers.

I'm at the NHRA race in Vegas and talked to a Comp racer running 12" wide slicks and he said he stopped running the Hoosiers because they were  to narrow, for him, running range, ie between 65° and 100° track temp work OK, but blew the tires off over 100°, and under 65°.
He now runs Goodyears or 33x 10.5x15  M/T

Thanks Jon. Did he mention which M/T he used? And I'm assuming the 2585 Goodyear?

Joe was using 33x10.5Wx 15 M/T, on a 14" wheel,  in Vegas, and he made it to the semi's running 7.06 to 7.07 in B/ED, running a 3 speed trans.
I have run the same tire, but on 12" wide wheel [JrFuel rules], and so far ran a 1.01 sixty foot time. I will try some other combinations with the M/T like higher launch RPM, and different tire pressure. I ran 7 1/4 to 6 3/4, but Joe found the best is 6 #. Down side on the M/T is they are heavy, rotating weight, like 34 lbs, where as the GY 31x12x15 weight 26 lbs, and our JF car ran 7.06, 7.07, 7.08 at the CHRR, running a 2 speed trans.
I hope that helps.

We bracket race a lower horse power FED and have had good results with the 2585 tire.

Hello I know this is an older topic but if your still out there ... Isn't the 33x10.5 M/T a stiff side wall tyre for a heavy door car?

MT 33x10.5 works great on many cars --mine included--pal swaps between 2585 and MT 33 and can hardly tell any diff yea they are lite but it does not always show up in ET slip

So far, with the few runs I've had the chance to make with the car, the 33-10.50's are working great. best of 1.26 60' so far

Dave, what lind of HP does your pal, that swaped tires make? It might be both tires are too big to match his HP. Also what kind of launch RPM and tire pressures ?
We get 1.0-1.05 sixty ' times, 4.45 @ 154-155 mph at the 1/8.

Jon. How much is a pair of the Goodyear  D2585's delivered to 62563 or 62703 ? Thank you. George

I'm looking to try some on our SBC blower car. The Hoosiers usually work good but when track isn't great we struggle.

I would settle for a used set. Also will be at Indy/ US Nats on Saturday.

George, the D2585's are $373 each, if you are driving to Indy, and will have your wheels, GY can mount and balance your new tires at NC, at the track.
You will have to give me your credit card info before Indy, since the 2585's are mine.
No I don't have any used 31x12x15's.
