Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Forged Chevy 6 FT Pistons
« on: October 03, 2014, 05:37:32 PM »
I am currently running a Chevy 194" generation 3 7 main motor in my vintage dragster. It has standard 3.563 + 0.040 cast pistons. I am looking for a replacement 3.623 (.060 over) forged piston to use in a build up on the motor. Current HP & CR is around 125/8.5, new build will be close to 200HP @ 6200 RPM and a CR around 9.5 - 10.0.

Does anyone make a forged piston for this motor? Have found 230/250/292 stuff, but no 194 forged piston.

Would I be OK with good Speed Pro cast units?

Thought I might post an update on the car as I have not been on the thread much this year. I have not been able to run the car since last Oct. Medical problems have kept me out of the seat for a while. All is looking good and mending well and hope to run the car at our June ANRA Nostalgia race in Bakersfield, CA.

Made some improvements to front end setup by adding some friction shocks and having the front tires skin cut to get a better roll out. The tire/wheel roll out was .155 & .125" out of round when we started and now the roll out on the tire/wheel are .015 & .018".  Should roll a lot smoother with very little wheel hop.

Pulled my 194 Small Chamber head and cleaned up the ports, installed 1.84 Int & 1.60 Ex valves and milled .060 off the head.

Built a pair of 3 into 1 collectors to replace the zooms, They are a little shorter than I would like but should work fine.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Chevy L6 (250) 0pened to 4.00 Bore
« on: February 01, 2014, 08:08:04 PM »

OK guys, now that I know the block can be bored to 4.00" with it pour filled has anyone done a 4.00" bore on a Chevy L6 250 block with the water passages in the block still open.

I really would like to keep the cooling system for the whole motor if I can and pour filling an L6 motor is not as easy as a SBC V8. The cost of sleeving the motor is out of my bracket.

This motor will replace my existing 194" L6 with a 266" L6 in my vintage dragster.

Wanted to sell / CLIFFORD HIGH RAM Intake 6 Cyl 194/230/250/292
« on: September 24, 2013, 04:42:34 PM »

For sale is a Vintage Clifford High Ram 6 cylinder 3x2 Intake manifold. It fits all Third Generation Chevy 194/230/250/292 6 cylinder motors without the integrated intake.

This intake is in like new condition and looks like it has never been run. There is a casting flaw in the left hand raised “CLI_FORD”.  The right side raised “CLIFFORD” is as it should be. There are no cracks, repairs or thread problems. The letter casting flaw has no effect on the intake operation.

This intake was built to run 3 Rochester 2G carbs. The bolt pattern is for a large base 2G Carb, but you can get adapters to run the small base 2G carbs.

Shipping should be no more than $18 FedEx Ground. If you PM me your zip I can give you an exact amount.

PRICE -- $250

Six Cylinder Drag Vehicles / New 6 cylinder Motor Idea For My SDRA Dragster
« on: September 21, 2013, 07:48:15 PM »
During the off season I want to put together a new motor for my SDRA dragster that has a little Chevy Gen 3 194" motor currently.

I am looking at a Chevy 250 block pour filled to within 1" of the deck, Bored .125 to 4.00 for 327 forged FT pistons, O deck the block, CR about 11.50-11.75, Clay Smith cam about .550/.550, Small chamber 62cc head with sbc 1.87/1.60 valves, After market 4bl intake with a 600 cfm carb. Will run water in 1" of the block and all of the head. This setup will make 266" and I hope 270-280 HP.

Just a note that we can not run slicks in the SDRA dragsters, only 6" DOT street tires so it helps to keep the bottom end power under control and make lots of top end. Dragster runs a PG with 8.8 Mustang traction lock and 3.77 gears.

What say out there, comments and any past experience with this type motor build? This is a home build motor with cost to be reasonable.

Front Engine Dragsters / Ford 300" 6 cylinder to PG trans
« on: September 06, 2013, 03:41:53 PM »

Looking for some help on a motor/trans combination. It will be install in a vintage style HAMB dragster like I have.

Is there an after market adapter bellhousing that will mate a Ford 300" 6 cylinder motor to a race PG trans? What about the flexplate (size & teeth).
