Drove 6 1/2 hours out to Indy area to pick up my new car.  If I had gone and looked at the car I probably not have bought it. Really rough. BUT I did want a project and I got one now. Lol here are some pics. I bought a blower,a mag manifold and a 4 stack Hilborn injection

It rains almost the whole trip out and on the way back home it poured from WV til I got home at 11:30pm.

What kind of HP levels are you going to be with the blown 331? Are you building this as a drag race only car not street? I know my buddy with his SS/P 55 Chev 265ci uses the Mccleod soft hit clutch ( http://www.mcleodracing.com/index.php/racing-parts/soft-lok.html )and a Jerico transmission. He has set the record for his class 11.60 ET

No idea on HP as of now. It will be street driven and will take to the track once in awhile..  I just need to know if the small block Chrysler bell housing will work.  They have the same bolt patern.

The small block bell will bolt up, but the crank flange on the hemi extends further from the engine block, so you need to make a spacer to put between the block and bell.

Hi Steve- Jeff;
Not being a Chrysler guy and having  to get up to speed on this the last few years. I am at a loss when you say a small block (LA) bell will bolt to a hemi. Remember back when I heard this a few years ago that I took said bell and held it up to my 331 block (short bell) and the top 4 screws were in the same spot but that was it. The lower screws and dowles were in different locations. I now have drawings with the dimensions  confirming this.
So my question is is there a mopar of different year or variant that has the same pattern? ???
Not trying to be an ass just tryin  to get educated.
Jeff you are going to need a scatershield anyway so thinking the sky's the limit for what you would want. You need a Lenco ;) ;D
In case you had not already seen it this site has good info.

Luke,
Sorry for the late reply but I'm new to this early hemi stuff. I'm learning like you.

Set engine in to see how it will fit.. I think I might move it forward a couple of inches.

What to use for a transmission?? I love 4 speed cars.  This will be a street car and some drag racing. I love seeing a wheels up off the line and 2nd gear wheelie.

Automatics I'm not sure about. All comments welcome.

Great build Jeff, I'm following every update.

4-speed please! Automatics are for minivans and certain drag cars... (well, there are exceptions though).

I am trying to remember what I did 20 years ago. Some of this may be wrong so PLEASE double check. I put a 392 in a 41 Willys before the nostalgia craze.  I used a 3/4 inch plate to space the tranny back and put the block dowel pins in it. The small block does mount closely but enough difference to cause head aches.  I thought there was too much run out with my limited fab skills. I then bought a Wilcap version that was also 3/4 inch but it adapted a chev pattern and they had crank flange spacers. I recall that was the one that was used. And yes,a scatershield was used but no, lenkos are out of the budget. Hope this helps, cool looking ride!
PS I think Hot heads may sell the Wilcap line now.

Well that is timing! If you look at the willys is painted thread you can see what I was talking about. I would have killed for that trans though.

I am looking at the wilcap adapter. I have to figure out what 4 speed to use. Ford 10 bolt top cover or M 20 thru 22 Chevy trans.

Trying to get engine in the right position so I can make the engine mounts. A lot higher than last pics. I bought some Hot Heads fender well headers. They came in Hedman header box lol

The injectors still need to be moved rearward about 4-6 inches
I have to cut the cowl to do that

Hightower Racing Transmissions--I think in SC? maybe NC--he is the guy that does all the Southeast gasser guys stuff--google him--they seem to be the best bet for that power level--I would get a clutch from him so you get the right stuff first time--

After watching and looking at all the gassers I saw at New England Dragway over the weekend, I went right to the garage and installed my new Wilcap tranny adapter,Lakewood bell housing and Doug Nash 4+1. Now I can fab the engine and transmission mounts.

I have not changed any of the requirements (still max size per post is 1500KB, Max size per attachment is 150KB Max number is 10, you can still link to pictures on the web).

What problems are you having, I posted both pictures and linked to pictures on the web earlier today?

You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are doc, gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png, txt, docx.

It says this also image.jpeg.

Those have been the allowable extensions from the very start.

JPG is the most common picture extension

What extension are you trying to use?

Have been playing around with the falcon. Pulled rear end out and found inside of housing complexly in rust. Ring gear did not have all its bolts. Everything I touch on this car is junk. I wasted $6000. I should have gone out to see it or not paid till I saw it. I am making the engine mounts out of 3/8" aluminum. They will attach to the ears on the block.

I'm glad you got it figured out, you had me going.

Isn't always the case that when someone is selling something it is nothing but the best, but when you take it home you find out it all has to be redone.

Not sure I got any value when I purchased mine either. That's just the way it goes when you buy stuff and its not limited to race cars. I never feel guilty when giving the seller my honest appraisal of their car. Sure they get mad but that's just reality setting in. Pay what you think the pile is worth otherwise you will feel taken advantage of.
If you don't get the car count your blessings!

Did you say widen your rear end? If you need a wider one I would sale the narrow one you have and buy a different housing

Ladder bar mounts are on. Not worth selling. Easier to add 4" on each side.

Some update on what I have done. Removed rear frame rails and all aluminum work in car. Of coarse nothing is square on the car. Getting ready to install rails and set up the coilovers on rear end. I also bought a 3" dropped WAC custom front axle.  I need to find a new picture reducer as the one I did use seem not to work anymore lol
