Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Just for fun little guy FED combos

As far as "Mopar Tax" I dissagree.  I realize that when it comes to SBC parts there are more choices, making the prices cheaper. But unless your building a full tilt racing engine, Mopars "especially Big Blocks" can be made to run very hard with factory parts.

I have a 68 383 with a rerung shortblock, stock 346 heads with handlapped valves, 484 Hyd. cam, TM6 intake, 750 Holley DP and headers and it runs 12.50s in a 3500 lb Coronet.    I don't know what it would run in a 1500 lb rail but I'm sure it would dip into the 9s.

Please understand.  I'm not trying to start a pi$$ing match as I Love and Appreciate ALL old Cars.   When it comes to basic Little Guy Hot Rodding  there are alot of choices.

By the way,  Great looking FEDs everyone!

wideopen231, you have a good point about Terrible Ted.   I've never had the pleasure of seeing "The Nuge" but have seen Lonesome George 5 times and he always comes outa the gate at 100 MPH with a no frills band and never lets up.

But the loin clothe defininitly takes it to the next level.  I guess you could say, Ted takes an injected Hemi and bolts on a blower!

I've yet to own a FED, so I'm not an expert.  As a hopeful future owner and a life long fan I love them both and look at them in a Rock and Roll frame of mind.

A Full Body is like going to an Elvis Concert........Great Showmanship and Unmatched Talent you'll remember forever!

A Half Body, Open Frame is like going to see George Thorogood........A Screamin Banchee, No Frills, Hard Rockin, Lets git it done show and hopefully I won't get arrested on the way home!

That may sound weird but thats the way I think. :o

Is it ok to tack weld Moly with a MIG?

I have a friend that works maintenance at a food plant and thats about all he does is TIG.  He has told me that he would help me out while I'm learning to TIG.  If I'm not confident enough then I could have him finish weld it.

Roo Man's Room / MIG welded mild steel chassis ??

Hi Guys, I'm new here and enjoy the sight!  I've always loved Rails and after years of racing door slammers and just turning 50 I figured If I'm gonna do it there's no time like the present.

I'm a good welder and fabricator but have just started TIG welding.  That being said my plan is to build a simple, single carbed dragster to start with.  Will most tracks allow a mild steel Mig welded chassis?  I see the SFI 2.6A is for 7.99 and slower but I imagine that requires a TIG welded Moly chassis.  My thought is that if I keep it under 10 seconds I should be fine and if I did go faster than the 10s I'd want a Moly chassis anyway.

Thanks for your input.

Looking Good Tim!

Whats your chassis rated for?  Is it mild steel or Moly? When did you decide to add the Coupe Body?

Exuse me for all the questions, I haven't been on the HAMB for along time and just found this sight.

Thanks, Gary
