Front Engine Dragsters / Some Chassis builders have been busy!!

Every time I drive by a wind farm or radio tower I'm reminded of a modern day nostalgia FED :o   I'm not criticizing anyone, but they just don't look right to me.  JMHO!

Merry Christmas!

Occasional or everyday, diesels are just fine.  As for the Cummins and low budget....A half million miles with routine maintenance is well worth the cost

12 and 24 valve 5.9 Cummins are work horses with good fuel economy.   Consider the fact that the 5.9 Cummins was originally built for a Case Backhoe.

Tractor engine durability with good fuel economy......its a no brainer.

A buddy of mine has an 01 Dodge with a 24 valve, 5.9 with a manual tranny and it has just under 500,000 miles and most of them are towing miles.  I know he's replaced the injectors and maybe the injector pump but other then that it has the original engine and gets MPG in the low 20s pulling a 35 ft enclosed trailer.   I have a 99, 24 valve Cummins and love it!   It has 170,000 miles and the only weak link was the auto transmission.   I stuck 5 grand into the tranny/convertor fixing all the weak links and it made a night and day difference towing my 32 ft camper.    I love the 5.9 Cummins! ;D

That's one nice thing about old Radars, you can paint the hoops to look like unpolished aluminum if there rusty.  Your car looks good! A cool looking, fun ride is way better than a credit card show queen.

Glad your having fun, that's the main thing.  15 x 8 Dragmasters are cool!   Every Dragmaster I've ever found is a 14 x 6.  Now I'm jealous   :-[

Welcome to the sight Bob Falfa!  8) Still looking for the yellow Deuce?   Nothing wrong with a 265.  We used to have a guy at my local track back in the 70s that ran a 265 powered 55 Chevy in Super Stock.  He would leave the line at 10,500 and shift it there after at 10-5 hanging the front hoops in each gear!   As you said, your probably not gonna hit those high RPMs but let it rip and have fun!

When we would start the AA/FA at home we would call the cops.
Local patrol guy was racer friend if he was on duty he came buy.
We told the neighbors the cops made us start it.

We have moved to a complex where it never get old starting the car.
Now if they would move the Day Care Center closer we might find some new fans!!!

My Dad was not a so called "Hot Rodder" but was always a gear head.   He was a farmer all his life and built a lot of machinery him self and enjoyed racing.  When he retired, he and mom moved to town. There was a guy down the street with a Pulling Tractor and most nights would Rev-Tune his engine.  While the neighbors complained, Dad thought it was COOL!

Once a Gear Head always a Gear Head!!   God bless you Dad!

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: converter
« on: January 28, 2016, 08:18:45 PM »
We chased our tails for a long time with a spec rite convertor, had it changed by them a couple times and it was worse each time. Changed to Continental and it was perfect. Its a 565 bbc leaves at 6200rpm. Is a GOOD TIME. Converters can make or break a combo...

I know this doesn't apply directly to Dragsters but I have to give my 2 cents on Continental Convertors.  About 6 years ago I bought a 9 inch Continenetal convertor for a 727 tranny off a Mopar website for $200 bucks.  When I got the convertor in the mail I took the number stamped in the case and called Continental and they gave me the specs and it was indeed bought new buy the guy I got it from.  I put it in my 68 Coronet and right away picked up 3 tenths over a TCI Super Street Fighter in the 1/4 mile.  A couple weeks later the guy I bought it from called me back and asked if I would sell it back!  He went on to say he bought a unit from Torque Convertor Concepts (An E-Bay Seller) and it slowed him down 3 tenths!   I told him I was very happy with it and said "Thanks, but no thanks".  He replied " I knew you would say that"

There are some good convertor company's out there but Continental is at the top from my experience.

Not trying to rain on your parade but welding half pipe along the bottom would not pass tech and would not make it any safer.  Who knows how old it is and what kind of shape the tubing is on the inside besides the weld quality.  Even at only 11 seconds it's dangerous.

It's a cool looking chassis but if it were mine I'd make it into Cackle type car and fire it up when your buddys are over or make it into wall art if you have the space.  It won't take much to go 10s but find a good used, newer chassis and stay safe.

I am a welder and use brake cleaner frequently in my shop.  The danger is using brake cleaner with chlorine in it.  The ultaviolet radiation from a welding arc will cause phosgene gas.  Phosgene gas was used in trench warfare in WW1.  Just be sure to use non-chlorinated brake cleaner (usually in a green can) and marked in an obvious place on the label and avoid the chlorinated brake clean (usually in a red can) and you will be fine.  If you accidentally use the chlorinated stuff you will know immediately because of the smell that most describe as the smell of new mowed hay.  If that happens quit welding and air out the shop and you will be fine.

If that smelt like fresh cut Hay I'd be spraying it all over  8) that's one of the finest aromas in the world!
