Welcome Justin!  I'm not to far away in NW Iowa.  WOW!  you've covered the bases when it comes to cool gear head stuff.  Funny cars, FE dragsters, flattrackers.......very cool xxxx!   The only thing you left out were speedway bikes and vintage hot rod pulling tractors!  Glad you joined here!

Hot Heads sells a repop of these but I'm not sure how accurate they are.  Might be worth checking out.

Thanks Bruce! The article in the little book also appeared in a two part series in Hot Rod magazine in I believe March and April 1965.  That was the Don Long article I referred to.  Great article!

Front Engine Dragsters / Looking for old magazine article??
« on: July 06, 2017, 10:45:21 AM »
I am looking for an old magazine article from the 60s about building a dragster.  If I remember right it was called "So you want to build a dragster".  I have the Hot Rod article showing Don Long building the Ed Pink, Old Master dragster.  I have a few thousand old magazines but I'm going blind trying to find it.  Does anyone remember what title this appeared in?   Pop Hot Rodding? Drag Racing?  Thanks!

I understand how it is, but the unequal length tie rods make for unbalenced steering.  A P&S steering box is faster one direction over the other to compensate for the longer ty-rod when it was used in farm equipt.

Did P&S build boxes for farm equip or are they copied from a Ross box?  I always thought they were copied off a Crosley box?

Roo Man's Room / Re: Welding Moly Tube?
« on: June 14, 2017, 08:51:31 AM »
After you have the frame jigged do you tack all the joints first?  And when you are welding do you turn the chassis over when possible so you are welding flat as apposed to vertical or overhead?   Or, would welding the chassis out of the jig warp the chassis?

Roo Man's Room / Welding Moly Tube?

I've read some different methods for tig welding moly tubing.  Sometimes its preheated, sometimes slow cooled and sometimes the tube is filled with the shielding gas prier to welding.  Are these methods used in chassis fabrication?  Rooman, Bruce, please explain!

Drag Racing / Great news for the High Plains!
« on: January 30, 2017, 12:05:19 PM »
There is going to be a new Dragstrip in western Iowa! The town of Onawa, Iowa has the financing to start building a Dragstrip this spring.  The project started a couple years ago after the city airport shutdown.  At first they had 3 investors but when the time came 2 of them backed out.  This past week they announced they have the money needed to go ahead.  The nice thing about it is the towns people, City hall and the county are behind it 100%.  As a matter of fact one of the guys who got the ball rolling is a councilman and a non racer but thought it would be a great use for the old airstrip!  Onawa is about an hour north of Omaha, Nebraska right off I-29. I know this probably doesn't affect most of the members hear but its always good news to have a strip being built rather than shutdown.
