Front Engine Dragsters / Re: strapping FED down in trailer

Mac's inflatable support Very important. The old Keg bumpers work ok too but you need to jack up the car. I would use a Mac's bladder even in an air ride trailer. To many towing horror stories to list here.....

This is good info from Glenn,

I would appreciate anybody here that is towing with a Class A Diesel Pusher to let us know what you have for a unit, what you tow and what problems if any you had and what you did to overcome those.  I am not looking for all the legal stuff here. I am looking for real world experience with various coaches.

From what i find unless you have a very late model VERY high end coach most of these are really rated for about 5K trailers or most don't even have a towing capacity they just rate the GVW GVRW.  A unit with a 10K hitch does not mean the coach is rated by the factory to haul a 10 K trailer in many cases.

With that said there are pit areas at racetracks around the US that are full of these units that are similar to what Glenn is using.  Some of these coaches are built better than others I fully understand that.  But most of these rigs are technically overloaded if you base it on the GVWR numbers...  I remember the day when racers were trying to use the "light duty" gas rigs to pull and that was not working so well.
I would also like input on what type of brake controllers etc...
Towing is a big expense and a very important part of the racing operation. I know there are a lot of theories and opinions.. I would just like to hear from Racers like Glenn who Tow with these rigs.
Thanks in advance for the information.

Wideopen,

I have an old C&A starter.   I have no idea if it is any good. send me a pic to rusty@kramermetalfab.com and i will see if it looks the same as mine.  I would just sell you the entire unit if you want.  I can send pics of mine. Again  I have no idea the condition. been laying on my shelf for years.

I think all the above is very good information. I really feel that in any kind of car in any class,  that you should have someone video and or watch,  your runs at the finish and try to determine based on your car, speed, chute type etc. how soon or how many feet before the finish you can deploy the chutes and have them hit very shortly after the strip while you are still on the throttle so you "drive into the chutes." .. I am going to try to do exactly that this summer to see how soon after I shift into 3rd gear I can hit the lever instead of trying to judge the finish line.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Tank vent size.
« on: April 05, 2016, 10:42:52 AM »
We are feeding a little more motor but 1-1/8" ID feed line.  3/4" ID vent.  Pee test like a young guy and works good on the car. same type vent as DREracecar has front and rear vent with a T in the center

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: what spark plug for a blown alky app
« on: March 30, 2016, 08:01:12 PM »
I had a new Blown alky engine combo last year. Flowed fuel system.  Started to lean it out later in the season and never saw any cad off the NGK plugs.   My tuner, said lets try Champ N57DRs he was used to tuning with them and was sure we should have started to see some cad off at least a few Cylinders.  Next time out Put in the champs and we had cad burning on several holes.  So from the very little experience I have on my engine the Champions were showing cad burn sooner than NGKs..  Going to do some more experimenting this season.... The Champions are silver and the NGKs are gold.
I have always used NGK and just think they are a better looking better quality spark plug...
Has anyone else had this experience?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Engine Torque Limiter
« on: March 22, 2016, 03:35:31 PM »
I agree with most everything said. I broke a motor plate on a soft leaving  1.25 60' RED after a couple hundred passes with no Limiters. I use the bars to my clutch can on our BA/D but I designed them to be very tight and solid.( Maybe I even need more support)  A big yes to removing all edges on the block and trans/bell and buff all the rough edges on all of your aluminum parts.

Spud, what is the type of wire you are recommending these days for a SM5 FIE Mag. Using an RPM datalogger.  I  Have been using the MSD super conductors I purchased from you.  working fine....

Also about how many runs on the coil wire and on the plug wires before replacing.

thanks!

Drag Racing / Re: Which data logger for a FED?

I have an RED but I would put in a vote for RPM.  I have a basic system and it has worked well and the service and tech support is very good also. if you really need more features you may need another system.
