Roo Man's Room / Rearend Upright Strap Thickness Requirement
« on: December 18, 2018, 08:32:48 AM »
What is the required thickness of the vertical straps in the mounting of a rearend?  Mine are 3/16" (purchased from a well-known chassis builder) and I had another chassis builder tell me over the weekend they need to be 1/4" minimum.
I've tried to locate the requirement in NHRA and SFI regs but I'm not having much luck and I could sure use some clarification.

I have been after a Frameworks shifter for a few years now and I was lucky enough to find one here in the classifieds - thank you again Dave.  I made a bracket for it and got it tacked in the car.  Now I need to measure/order a shifter cable for it but it worked out great.  I also picked up a pillow block to move my pitman arm shaft mount further out and it will go under the top bar.
The ol' cockpit is starting to fill up.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: Throttle Linkage/Cable Help...Ideas??

Thank You Guys!!  I appreciate the help/ideas and input.  I'll see what i can come up with on getting to the left side of the car before I go through the mid-plate and rethink my steering box setup.

Front Engine Dragsters / Throttle Linkage/Cable Help...Ideas??
« on: November 19, 2018, 01:03:37 PM »
I'm kinda scratching my head on this and looking for input/ideas on what to do for a throttle pedal and linkage or cable setup.  The 5 carbs will all be tied together (non-progressive) and can open by pulling or pushing depending on setup.  These pictures are the best that I have now and I still don't have my tranny shields and locking dipstick on so it will get tighter.
Plan A:
Mount a pedal on a pedestal off the frame then run a cable by going forward off the pedal, through the mid-plate, around the front of the engine and back around to "push" them open.  Seems like a long way around the barn (literally) and I will need to route the cable around the magneto and various other stuff to get there.
Plan B:
Mount a pedal on a pedestal off the frame then build some type of Z bar across the back of the mid-plate to get to the left side of the mid-plate, go through the mid-plate with a cable to "pull" them open.  I'm not really sure if there will be enough room to do this and honestly have not given this approach much thought.
I'm curious what others have done and would like to have your input on what you would do here.

Thanks FF and matter of fact my son and I were discussing that very thing.  It returns nice now but pretty sure we're going to add a second spring further up the handle.

Next up was a master cylinder and hand brake.  I have a buddy who built a dang nice HAMB dragster and after one season (only 2 races) is parting it out.  Sad to see it happen and it's a long story but his partner in the deal wanted out so my pal said "screw it" and parted out a brand new car.  I was able to use the master cylinder and calculations (bore size, etc..) worked out.
