If your tranny (glide, planetary) on any front motored car is fully enclosed by a tunnel you can run a -5, if any part is exposed to the driver, you have to run a -20, at least in NHRA.

Wanted to buy / Re: ISO Lenco Reverser
« on: May 18, 2015, 01:15:51 PM »
Don't know if you would be interested, but in case you havn't found one, I've got most of the pieces for a CS-2 reverser, needs a Reverser ring gear, a reverser planetary gear and possibly reverser thrust bearing. Replaced this one with a new reverser about 6 years ago with the intention of rebuilding this one for a spare.  Link below from Snyders website shows the pieces needed,  Scroll down most of the way to see the parts needed.  Can send pictures of what I've got.

My one hat/tunnel ram combo was an M-1 manifold with Hilborn Shotgun on a 512 Mopar wedge.  I drilled the nozzle holes about an inch above the head mating surface as far down the runner as I could safely get without the hard lines interfering with the valve cover.  I had little if any variation with plug readings, which, I felt were a result of having a clean shot of air for the majority of the tunnel port.  The manifold did have a plenum which seemed to also help equalize the air from cylinder to cylinder.  I was running mid 130's in 1/8th so I don't think I was getting too much ram effect toward the rear cylinders, higher speeds would probably change that if you're running 1/4 speeds.  Might need to run Enderle style nozzles with the drop in jets for fine tuning if you're looking for that last HP.  I was running Hilborn/Kinsler style nozzles, and in a bracket car, I always tried to keep in the middle of the tune-up window so I never felt the need for the drop in style, would probably go that route though, if I was building that system today.  BTW, no reason at all to run hat nozzles in this kind of setup.

Wanted to buy / Re: powerglide to hemi bell housing

I've got one, unfortunately out of cert and JW won't recert because I had to mill part of starter pocket off to fit inside chassis upright. Didn't need the pocket since I was running blower starter.  Wouldn't be any problem to fix it but JW won't touch it if its' been modified.  Live and learn, I guess.

Sorry to hear about the back issues Glenn, a hard launch in a solid mount car sure won't help that.  I don't know if you see or talk to Steve Walzak that often but he can fill you in on the festivities of last weekend. If you had to miss a race, this one might have been the best one to miss  ::)  ::).  Hope you can make BG next month, running in conjuction with the Nitro Harley guys is definitely a memory maker.

Bill, I'm pretty sure Norwalk is a go for next year, not sure about the other one, but I think the group is looking hard at a northern track or two for next year to help out some of our upper country racers.

Got my first #1 qualifier in the 7.00 Pro class at the NDRL AlkyDigger.com Hot August Nights at Edgewater Sports Park in Cleves, Ohio, last Saturday.  Couple that with my first round loss after leading by .007 at the 1000' mark only to give it away in the last 100.'  They say there are 1,000 ways to lose a race....I now know 961 of them.....  :-[  :-[  :-[

I made that tool almost 30 years ago,  not even sure where its at now, but give me a day or two and I'll try to post a pic or illustration.  Its really a lot simpler to show than it is to describe in words...... :)

It's takes a special widget to do the job and a couple of them to do it right. Just the tool to get the body apart will set you back $70 not including the shipping for it.  By that time your mag could be here or at the mag shop of your choice.

You can make one of those with a hollow pushrod and a bench grinder. Grind a little off of each side of the end until you form the two tangs. The hollow of the pushrod slips right over the stud.

Spud Miller's Cave / Proper grounding for SM-IV
« on: June 21, 2013, 07:20:59 AM »
Hi Spud,
I know this is basic but just want to make sure.  Been running a SM3 grounded to an oil pan stud on KB block with big red button kill switch.  Recently bought someones spare SM-4 that you hopped up in 2008 with the big yellow capacitor on the outside.  Since changing over, it seems the mag tries to fire sporadically with the switch off.  Pulled the switch to see if contacts looked bad and they looked brand new, no evidence of arcing anywhere so I don't think the switch is bad.  I see on the notes, at the bottom of the paperwork that you hand wrote to ground both heads to the coil, am assuming these grounds go to the yellow wire side of the coil, but just want to make double sure.  I ran a Vertex for years because it only had 1 wire and even I could figure that one out.......lol. Thanks!!
BTW using 2-wire harness and 28900A redtop if that makes any difference.

My first thought would be: Which way does the the rear travel when the heim joint breaks......does it go straight for the sack, or does it richochet off of something else first before it heads for the sack....... :'(  :'(  :'(
