Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: B&J clutch pack
« on: October 21, 2017, 04:59:08 PM »
I'm in Australia and about to service my B&J for the first time (and swap gear packs from 55% to 44%).
Any enlightenment on this procedure would be very greatly appreciated, particularly the clutch pack set up Paul asked about.
I can find several youtube videos about the lenco transmissions, but nothing on B&J.
Cheers

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: ETC limiter advise

I recently tested an ETC limiter with a Supermag 5 on the bench and found it activated 200 RPM low at 3000 tacho RPM and about 600 RPM low at 7000 tach RPM.

I'm in awe Spud. What you have done with the OHCP is remarkable.
I've only done some 15 passes with my digger (half those were 1/2 track) and the engine has been rebuilt 4 times! Maybe I'm doing this all wrong lol.

Currently running a 468 donovan, 110 pump, your SM5 (8 amp), and 3.7 gears. 8000 RPM

I've been thinking about your success........maybe a 2.90 gear to get the revs down further, and a bigger pump to make up for the lower pump speed (my 110 enderlie now has a blank main and 180 psi), and install a Supermag +.

I'm carrying an extra 200 lbs weight over your digger, but that shouldnt hurt too much.

Cheers mate

Hey Roo...... I've never understood where the term came from.
Why are they called "Burn Down" Tubes?

Stumped

That black beauty is owned by Russel Mills (Sydney Australia) and was built by Richard Botica - the same talented guy who built my Fossil Fueler injected nitro digger.

My injected nitro digger is 200". It has a Gene Adams early hemi tune up, so it starts out with the full load hammer blows - not creeping up on it!...........At times, I sure wished I had an extra 25" wheel base, but we are working with what we have. So far 50 lbs weight have been added up front. Next move is to re-locate the fire bottles from midship to up front.

I've driven lots of cars down the track (even wheelstanders!) but this my first FED and the first few hard hits in the Fossil Fueler felt spooky. Front end was real light - but thats probably just my inexperience with this kind of car.

As mentioned above, you can make it work with any wheelbase if you go about it in a methodical way. Just takes a little time.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: 18V Battery to run Distributor?
« on: November 10, 2014, 01:51:35 PM »
.....and here is something else about 18V power tool batteries.
Dont use them to run a Data Logger. My RPM Logger is supposed to be OK with 18V but apparently the battery charges up to over 18V and this renders the DL useless. I dropped back to a 12V battery and now it is all good.

Spud Miller's Cave / Re: Bigger mag for more power?

Guys. Whats the big deal with maintenance when the mag is mounted in the stock location?
.......I hate bending down to those front mounted mags  :-\

Spud Miller's Cave / more spark!!!!!
« on: June 04, 2014, 08:39:51 PM »
Here is the new FIE Supermag 5 (boosted to 8 amps primary) fitted to the Fossil Fueler injected nitro digger. The huge red monster coil had to be moved to the steering cross brace because it would not fit in the old position, beside the clutch can.

We fired her up once with an extra 5% b/v leak, and it still looks dry. So we'll add another 5% and ........GO TESTING! Cant wait. The extra fuel and spark should wake her up off the line....hahahahaha

That tranny will last for years. Probably good for 1500 HP, so whip it!
Good luck with the rest of the build.

Before you start machining - inject the oil galleys with shaving cream, that will keep 99.9% of the chips out and when finnished use a vacuum cleaner to suck it all out.

Shaving cream.....now there's a great idea.
