Title: Goodyear frontrunner 2904 OK on 2.25 rim?
Post by: Hairy on January 01, 2017, 04:59:40 PM
Going to run Weld 17" spindle mounts, 17" dia. 2.25 wide. Considering the Goodyear #2904 frontrunner tire, they say 2.5" rim. Thoughts on this tire working on 2.5"?

I have one set mounted on American Racing Qualifiers and one set on a Weld Pro Star and have had no issues.

I have sold, mounted and balanced lots of 17" Front runners on 1.4" to 1.85" wide wire spoke wheels for years. The trick is getting the tires to bead all the way. You should have no problems on a 2.25x17 wheel. The Goodyear part number you posted is 4" wide 17"  [ 2904] which is what I would recommend for your AA/FA, unless your front end weight is over 500 lbs. It seems alot of AA/FA run funny car size tires, 15".
If you are going with the 2904's, make sure you run enough tire pressure, the heavier the front axle weight the more tire pressure. 300-400 lb dragsters run 35-40 lbs, dragsters with front wings more like 50-60#, and big show fuel dragsters run over 80 # because of the 2000 lb plus down force from the wings.
Call me if you have any questions or you want to buy some Goodyears, I can give you a FED.org  discount.
