Matt my engine is a 331 Stroker 302 base that I bracket raced in a door car great little motor at least till it split the block right down the middle of the lifter galley :o No power adders and low rpm not sure of H.P. but it is nothing exotic at all! I am putting it back together using a 289 block hopefully it will last longer can't afford aftermarket block :-[ I just bracket race but want it dependable though!!!

Be careful using a 289 block with a stroker.
When you assemble check how much piston is hanging out of the cylinder at BDC.
The cylinders are shorter on a 289 block.
A 331 might be OK but the 347 pistons dont hold up to long with no support at the bottom.

Matt what is BDC ? thanks hotrod316

BDC (Bottom Dead Center) is the lowest position the piston reaches down in the cylinder bore. The concern is having too much piston skirt exposed when the piston is at its lowest position. When excessive, that can scrape or crack the piston.

Hi Randy:
I know moneys tight but..... Not only does the 289 have shorter cylinders, but the main caps webbing is thinner except for the Hi Po 289.. Am I remembering this correctly Matt??
Can remember back a bit before the aftermarket blocks started that the Mexican 302 was desirable for this reason.
Sucks dude I know. But you want this thing to hold up. :-\

The main caps are the same from the 289 block and the 302.
The HP 289 motor had thick caps and the same caps were used on the mexican blocks.

I have a couple 351W strokers but I wanted to start out with small to make sure the car does the right thing :-[
The 393w's have been some really good motors for us though may start with it and hang on ::)
