Drag Racing / Re: 7.0 license category
« on: November 06, 2018, 04:40:39 PM »
well, were going one anyways (cant miss MM :D ).  i just stated that as an option even if it is/was possible.  it would be Wednesday tnt only.  if worst came to worst, tow down the weekend before and do couple hits and leave the car there on-sight and come back Tuesday afternoon.. who knows.. maybe tow down weeks before if sac isnt open or rained out. its months out and will be here tomorrow.  we would test at sac anyways and id imagine could get the three in easy before then.

if its close, ill call.  i dont see if an issue if all i needed was one run.. just hypothicating options.

Drag Racing / 7.0 license category
« on: November 03, 2018, 02:47:19 PM »
what nhra license category would be for 7.0 pro?  would that be cat 3? and how many runs to go from sportsman to cat 3.  reading it, it seams like two full runs faster then 7.49.  i thought it was one full, one half, one 60?

also, what category would i select of the ones listed in cat 3?

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / sfi sticker on trans
« on: October 22, 2018, 06:03:23 PM »
does the sfi sticker have to be physically on the trans and bell housing?  when i got my trans, they just left them loose on a tag.  if so, whats a good way to ensure they will attach to the rough finish?

Roo Man's Room / Re: hole size versus width of material min/max ??
« on: October 21, 2018, 06:52:00 PM »
not sure it applies here, but most things read 1.5 times diameter of bolt from center. I think thats exact wording. Meaning if using 7/16 you have to have 7/16 material remaining after hole. So I took it anyway.

thank you,   i found some 3/16 x 2" strap in my stash ill use.

im adding weight bar straps to the chassis.  i think your supposed to use 1/2" bolts for securement.  i was planning on using some 1" x 1/8" strap.  this would leave 1/4" at edges.  what is legal or what would be recommend to safely do this.

Drag Racing / Re: prolong lubricant
« on: October 17, 2018, 06:07:01 PM »
Its basically STP...  an oil additive.  I am unfamiliar with the brand so i couldnt say how good it is..

Ages ago, when gas was 14 cents a gallon...  oil was oil and gas was gas (period).

People started adding stuff (STUFF) being everything we take for granted today. Like multi weight high temp detergent etc etc.

Sometimes people think their oil or fuel needs more stuff, and you can buy more stuff... most isnt snake oil.  The stuff really does work. Caveat: stuff is often a little goes a long way and afterwards returns diminish or make things worse.

Example. 1 can of stuff to 7 qts oil are fine.

12 cans to a half quart of oil... boom.  Well boom or call it full synthetic and charge triple for it. 😁

I worked for a place that did custom oil and fuel blending for a while. They had giant steam heated vats for heating the oil prior to adding stuff.

They would blend and ship in tank trucks or package qts or gallons and private label. Box truck ship.

They were in business over a 100 years. Could longer compete with big box corp stuff.

thank you for your reply, STP i understand.. that makes sense to me when you said that. I just did not think of it in that fashion.

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / Re: valve seals hemi
« on: September 26, 2018, 10:50:12 AM »
It's blown mechanical 426 kb block with those heads and littlefield 871.  The Edelbrock head is a good head for what we are doing. Just need to make prob 1200 or so for 7.0 guessing.  We figured if  my cast head vw could take/make 5.x lbs/cube hp that these could handle 3-3.5lb cube easily as they are far better then any vw cast head we've seen.

Thank you for all inputs. Keep em coming

Matt Shaff's Engine Shop / valve seals hemi
« on: September 25, 2018, 09:09:31 PM »
were going to be using Edelbrock Victor Jr Gen 2 hemi heads.  do you use the valve seals on both intake and exhaust or not at all?   my guess would be not to use them for extra oiling on the stems/guides?  also cause oil gets diluted from the meth?  if you dont use them, does the motor smoke more, much, not noticeable?

whats standard procedure for the seals?

Dan Dishon's Transmission Den / Re: PUMP PRESSURE CHECK
« on: September 24, 2018, 08:56:40 PM »
question concerning trans pressure.  i know nothing about PG's (really anything other then a vw trans :D ).  so, for pressure, do you only care about low gear?  is pressure a concern for shift or does it have something to do with lockup or ?  what does a reduction in psi mean?

so for psi sensor, install in item #2 in the above pic?  0-300 psi ok?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: how to buy a dragster in another state
« on: September 20, 2018, 05:05:44 PM »
personally, id make a trip and look at it.  if they have ever transported it without any bladder under motor i can flex and damage the chassis. just tough to buy a race car without actually checking it out in person.  you can get stung very easily.   if you found someone to transport, it will prob cost about 1200 or more im guessing. whever it is at, see if you can locate someone in that area to go look at it and maybe have them arrange payment.

Steve at wolfgang has a RED that he would sell.  ask him  how much without the pauter motor, turbo, etc.  idk if he would sale as a roller but worth a try.  its just sitting in his shop.
