I found wiend chart for 671 to reference. Its interesting the percent driven is cubic inch based too. Smaller cubes bigger percentage.  Eg; 327 @30%=27.1 lbs and 540 is 10.x lbs psi.

Why would boost be less for different cubic inch displacements .  The amount of air bieng forced into the engine doesnt change.  i can see volume wise the blower will have a lesser affect (gain) on bigger displacement but the amount of air (and weight of air) being induced doesnt change given same percent driven right.

If a 1:1 ratio, then in a typical blower setup, is the blower itself turning same rpm as motor or is it such like the cam.. 1/2 rpm

Are all blowers rated the same way, industry standard. So to compare same size blowers.

So a person tells me on his setup for 8-71 thats 35% over driven. What does that corelate too?  Just means ramp is faster to peak boost?

Ok, i dont have a clue the percentage means and how it relates to boost. i can understand it will be different for each size/type of blower. but lets take 6-71 for discussion purposes.  if you want to get technical then just choose something and state what it is.

for first questions, if there is over and under driven.. what is zero driven.  how many lbs of boost is zero driven or nuetral (however it is refered too).  im guessing over driven will make more boost and visa versa for under driven.  so, what is 10 percent over and under.

i guess the question would be what is neutral really.  then can go from there i guess.   is neutral atmosphere or one atmosphere? if its one atmosphere then 10% under would be 1.5lbs less.. so 14.7lbs is 1 amto then 10% would be 1.5 less then that?

« on: June 04, 2017, 08:08:46 PM »
ive only raced manual trans, first time with automatic.

so, if you want to get plug reading and kill the motor as you go through the traps.  what do you do with the trans. just leave in drive or do you put in neutral or ?

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: The testing of new rods
« on: April 21, 2017, 02:43:01 PM »
i look at classified on Insidetopalcohol and see guys mention runs on parts.

so, for rods...  (and i know it varies)  if alum. how many runs do you go before swapping and likewise with steel rods.   do you swap rod bolts at all .  say you keep for 80 runs but change rod bolts at 40 or something like that.  what do most people do. you only account for full hard passes or how do you consider half pass etc.

how does the differ between injected versus blown.  all on meth.

Events / Re: west coast north/south shootout
« on: April 21, 2017, 02:38:10 PM »
I can understand and see not driving past Bakersfield for a race when there is an abundance of racing for FED's in the general southern California area and personally if i lived down there i probably wouldn't travel northern either unless for points even.  But not everyone with a FED is located in 'so cal' and grant it not everyone in Washington area might not want to make the trip either.  So, to narrow and appease.. geographic area would be central California (Sac, Bay area, Stockton, etc) and Oregon (Portland area and just over border).  that's six hour drive each way to Medford.

It sound like this race for Kool April Nights in Redding will have a good turnout for NE1 and NE2.  so, irregardless if the few who would not travel either direction and based on turnout for Reddings race, a north versus south event might have a good turnout.

some guys might want to do a race like this and that is why im putting the question out there.  maybe it could happen and thats why people need to chime in with what they think might make it a good event to attend.

would you prefer Friday, Saturday or Saturday, Sunday... or Friday evening tnt, sat qual, sun elims?  i guess this would depend on car count too.  maybe get some B, C, D, gas guys to attend too.

if interested, talk about purse.. how far to pay back etc.

as a JOKE.. nor cal usually starts about Gorman when ppl refer to 'nor cal' or 'so cal' etc...

Events / west coast north/south shootout
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:22:34 PM »
would there be interest in a west coast north/south shootout for NE1, NE2, NE3 lets say.  dividing line is Oregon/California border.   race in Redding or Medford... Redding is actually half way between Canada/Mexico border.

look out a year.. that way everyone can look at all schedules etc and plan it out so a good group of cars could attend.

Please input to conversation so there is a good idea if feasible.  maybe add how you would setup up ladder etc.  who would ACTAULLY- HONESTLY show up.

Events / Re: Nostalgia Race in Redding CA for KAN
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:17:23 PM »
weather is shaping up to make it a great weekend.  they are constantly improving the drag strip facility and really put a lot of effort into making it a great place to race.

if you guys havent been to a KAN event in last few years, its awesome to see the amount of people at the event.  All the spectators will love it when all the FED's roll into town and put on a bitch'n show.

gonna be fun.

Jon's Wheel House / Re: Rim width V's tyre size
« on: April 21, 2017, 01:14:12 PM »
my understanding why the door car guys run the 10.5 on wider rim is so the sidewall wont wrap as if it would on conventional mounting situations +/- 1" of rim width normally (correct?).  some of those guys will run the 10.5 on a 15" wide wheel.  the 8.5 tire guys will use 12" wide wheels.

i know some A/F are running the 'big bubba' or something like that. its a ??x10.5x16 tire.

raises the question and i guess its all in how a person feels like setting thier car up but what would be optimal.  sense the FED dont have shocks, is the tire considered partly a shock?  meaning, on a live axle door car the shocks are used for tunning where as in FED there isnt that luxury.

so, if you make the tire stiffer, what changes or affect does that have on setup assuming the conventional setup with +/- 1" rim width to tire premise.  thinking about it, if stiffer sidewall i can see the tires ability to get up on the tire would be quicker since that energy isnt wrapped up in the tire waiting for it to un-wrinkle.  i could see downside to this is smaller window to getting wheel hop/tires spin.  and flip side would be with conventional setup if not enough power would be criticle as well with not having enough power for bigger tire and getting wheel hop.

« on: April 19, 2017, 04:58:39 PM »
what direction mag do i need to get for 331 hemi.  cw or ccw.   also, will be using an offset drive.

out of curiosity, does the drive reverse the rotation if mag is in stock location or does rotation stay same.

Drag Racing / Re: First run cost
« on: April 09, 2017, 12:38:42 PM »
depending on what you want for digger, you could spend 15 to 20 USD easy.. that doesnt include motor or trans.  then trailer will run you prob 5 to 8k depending on length of it.  then add in another 5k for incidentals .  i'd say if you have motor/trans.. and need to buy a FED/Altered or whatever and trailer.. id be looking closer to 30k.

Door Cars / 69 chevelle
« on: April 01, 2017, 10:07:43 AM »
buddy has a 69 (i think) chevelle that i been working on doing the tin work.  he's going to do put and LS in it with single turbo.  goal is to eventually set it up for running b/gas if possible.  its a budget build right now to get it running then adjust/change things later.

kind of funny, i had a chance to get the car years back and passed on it since i already was building another car and figured i could only devote resources / build one thing at a time.  well, i passed on it and now i find my self working on it haha.   its fun though, just enjoy something to do.

this is second time doing this, did the tin on my vw chassis car and it turned out good.  i have access to all brake, shear etc at work.  will get a better bead roller and own brake etc if i do another one.

doing the wheel tubs was interesting, made them at work as we have pittsburg machine.  they are in there, not sure if its right or not haha.. but they are in there.

will take it all otu and powder coat it all then reinstall.  the local sheet metal shop does not have plastic wrap on the aluminum so it gets little dinged up.

the challenging part for me is coming up with layout ideas. owner doesnt care what i do which makes it tough and part of reason why takes so long.  need the ole grey matter to churn up some ideas.

one thing is for sure, you think it takes 5 sheets.. well order 10 because your going to use em.

for the dash, i didnt roll anything in as no input.. so figured leave it smooth and let owner have gauge panel painted on it.   he is going to run a Motec efi and have dash on steering shaft.

i rolled a bow tie in the center between the tubs.  ill get better pic of it later.  need to weld a flange on the center pc where the tunnel will attach so it looks nice.

start of trying dream up something on the door panel.
