Front Engine Dragsters / Re: SFI-20 Boots/Shoes requirements
« on: March 05, 2017, 06:32:31 PM »
Paul, appreciate the feed back.
I was looking at the DJ Safety shoe/boot and will probably go with route if I don't hear anything positive about the Sparco sfi 20 shoes.
What I like about the Sparco shoes is that it is actually a shoe and not a bulky boot.
I was just thinking that would make it easier to get into and out of the cockpit in a hurry if needed.

I need to purchase SFI-20 boots for my blown FED application.
I see that Sparco came out with an SFI-20 shoe.
Anyone know if this would be legal for my set up ? I am running a Powerglide with a Reid case that is exposed to the driver.

Appreciate the feedback Draw 3D and Roo.

Roo, I net you at Bowling Green last year and hope to see you there this year.
I realize that you are very busy while you are there but I hope you could find a few minutes to check out my Digger.
Thanks.

Appreciate your response Crider.
Bruce....Good point on the backing the motor down and installing the drive dog.

Appreciate your feedback Coupemerc.
Your recommendations make sense.
I am sure others may have a slight variation to this routine.
Just trying to get myself educated to this new set up.
Thanks.

Once again, I come to this forum for wisdom.
I am really close to starting my first Hilborn 4 port, alcohol injected blower motor and would like to know the proper sequence (step by step) to starting and shutting it off.
The motor is 100% fresh and has only been ran for a few minutes with a carb/intake to break in the cam.

Is this even remotely close ?

Starting procedure -  (this could be totally wrong)
(1) Mag switch "OFF".
(2) Open up fuel pump & turn motor over to check for oil pressure.
(3) Stop turning motor over.
(4) Open throttle and squirt some gas down into the ports.
(5) Close throttle, turn motor over for a few seconds and then turn "ON" the mag.

Shut Down procedure - (this could also be wrong)
(1) While motor is idling, shut off fuel pump.
(2) After motor stops running, turn "OFF" the mag.

As always, All feed back is greatly appreciated.

Appreciate your feed back Paul.

Bruce, I've got the brackets as low as I can get them. I agree that you want the blower to separate from the manifold if things go south but as of right now it could lift about 3".
Do you feel that is excessive ? Whats your opinion of the adjustable ones and do you know if they are NHRA legal?

I just received my DJ Safety 14.1 blower restraints.
I gave them my dimensions and they said that I should have the 18" long straps.
After putting them on they seem about 2" too long.
The 18" looks way to floppy to me and the next size smaller is a 15" which is about an inch too short.
I could have them make a custom 16" set or get their adjustable straps.
My question is, Are the adjustable straps still NHRA legal ?

Can you mount the hardware to one header bolt or does it need to be attached by two header bolts?

I will be running a blower on alcohol.
Can I run 14.1 restraints or do they have to be a 14.2 ?  (big difference in prices)

Is there an ET where a 14.2 becomes mandatory ?

I normally do not run any national events but would like to make some passes at the HHRR this year at Bowling Green.

The local tracks around this area will not nothave a problem
