Front Engine Dragsters / Colored Lexan/Polycarbonate
« on: May 09, 2017, 02:49:44 PM »
My Digger is 99% complete. Hope to make some Test hits as soon as we get a dry weekend and have it at the Quaker City Raceway "Nostalgia Classic" at the end of this month.
Anyone know where I can buy some Red Lexan/Polycarbonate for my windscreen?
As always, I appreciate all feedback.

Front Engine Dragsters / Fire System Nozzle Placement
« on: March 16, 2017, 01:57:18 PM »
I am in the process of installing a duel 10# fire bottle system that has 5 nozzles and would like to get your feedback on proper nozzle location and how you mounted the nozzles.   Any pictures would be greatly appreciated.
This is on a alcohol injected, Blown application.
I was thinking one nozzle on each side of the oil pan (on the outside of the diaper).
One nozzle on each side (front of motor) aimed at the heads and one nozzle inside aimed at my feet and torso.
I appreciate all responses.

Front Engine Dragsters / Alcohol fuel system maintenance between races
« on: March 16, 2017, 01:26:02 PM »
I plan on starting my (first) Hilborn 4 port alcohol injected, blown BBC within a couple of weeks.
What is the proper procedure at the end of a race day to clean out the fuel system besides draining fuel tank and lines.
Is it OK to install a set of old plugs and let it run on gas for a few seconds ?
Since I will only be attending limited events, the digger could set for a few weeks before getting it out again.
As always, I appreciate all responses.

Front Engine Dragsters / SFI-20 Boots/Shoes requirements
« on: March 05, 2017, 10:30:49 AM »
I need to purchase SFI-20 boots for my blown FED application.
I see that Sparco came out with an SFI-20 shoe.
Anyone know if this would be legal for my set up ? I am running a Powerglide with a Reid case that is exposed to the driver.

Once again, I come to this forum for wisdom.
I am really close to starting my first Hilborn 4 port, alcohol injected blower motor and would like to know the proper sequence (step by step) to starting and shutting it off.
The motor is 100% fresh and has only been ran for a few minutes with a carb/intake to break in the cam.

Is this even remotely close ?

Starting procedure -  (this could be totally wrong)
(1) Mag switch "OFF".
(2) Open up fuel pump & turn motor over to check for oil pressure.
(3) Stop turning motor over.
(4) Open throttle and squirt some gas down into the ports.
(5) Close throttle, turn motor over for a few seconds and then turn "ON" the mag.

Shut Down procedure - (this could also be wrong)
(1) While motor is idling, shut off fuel pump.
(2) After motor stops running, turn "OFF" the mag.

As always, All feed back is greatly appreciated.

Front Engine Dragsters / Blower Restraints
« on: December 26, 2016, 12:00:49 PM »
I will be running a blower on alcohol.
Can I run 14.1 restraints or do they have to be a 14.2 ?  (big difference in prices)

Is there an ET where a 14.2 becomes mandatory ?

I normally do not run any national events but would like to make some passes at the HHRR this year at Bowling Green.

The local tracks around this area will not nothave a problem

Front Engine Dragsters / Wheelie bar mount questions.
« on: December 20, 2016, 12:57:17 PM »
I am in the process of building a 5' (three bar) wheelie bar.
(1) Are you guys using Heim's or Clevis' for the top mounts ?

(2) How is the best way to find the dead center of my frame, 5' back on the floor?

Measure straight off of the face of each disk, then split the difference ?
Find the middle of the motor plate, then use a square and a string ?
I appreciate all feedback.

Front Engine Dragsters / Chassis support
« on: December 02, 2016, 07:16:51 AM »
Once again I come to this forum for wisdom.
What are you guys using to support your digger chassis while hauling to the strip.
I have seen those inflatable rubber supports but they are rather pricey.
Not trying to be cheap, just looking for some alternative methods. Pictures would be great.
I appreciate all responses.

Front Engine Dragsters / Champ Dragster Oil Pans

Anyone out there ever run a Champ Oil Pan? They are made in America and have been in business for over thirty years.

Front Engine Dragsters / Fire Suppression Systems
« on: July 28, 2016, 01:37:31 PM »
I am looking to purchase a (2) 10# fire suppression system for my Blown FED and have some questions.
What agent are you guys using? FE36, Halon 1301, Novec 1230 or a Foam agent.
I realize that a foam agent would be messier to clean up but my concern is, does a gas agent work in an open cockpit car?
Is there a particular agent that is mandatory for a FED ?
Are steel lines mandatory?  Are aluminum lines safe ?
I have a tendency to over think things but considering the importance of the subject and the expense I want to do it right the first time.
I respect and appreciate all feed back.

Front Engine Dragsters / Blower manifold question
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:38:29 PM »
Building a new King Chassis 160" fed. Mild 427 BBC, 10.5 : 1 compression, Dyers Blower with a new Hilborn 4 port injection system. This digger is just for fun and do not plan on running any particular class or getting into any competition racing. Those days are past me now. My current blower manifold has the spring type pop off plate at the rear. Keeping in mind that I do not plan on rotating the earth with this set up, do you see any issues running this manifold or do I need to run a burst panel manifold. I appreciate any input.
