I have a TCI powerglide, I see a 1/8NPT port right in front servo cover angled downward. Is this where I hook up my gauge to check pump pressure? How much fluid will I lose when I remove the plug?
-
That is the high clutch port, you will a small amount of fluid, not enough to worry about. It will only have pressure when in high gear.
-
So where do I hook my gauge to check pump pressure? Do I need to remove trans-shield?
-
Servo cover for low gear
At tail housing seam for reverse
What case? Stock? Reid? ATI?
-
1 is the reverse port - will have pressure in reverse gear
2 is the "low" port - will have pressure in low gear
Note: not all stock cases have the reverse port tapped & capped.
-
What is that square block in front of the pan? weight?
-
Fluid catch can.

Looks like a puke tank/ overflow tank to me.
This is what we have used for our trans puke/overflow for the last 15 years, it's light weight, clear so we can see if we have an issue, and tech OK'd it.

ATI puke can for trans. Works nice. simple & self contained. I keep threatening to plumb into bottom frame rail, but never have.
-
We checked pressure yesterday, it only has 125 psi. @ 3000 RPM. So we will play at test and tunes a few times then pull it out. Thanks guys

If I were to buy a good handbook/manual on a powerglide, what would you guys suggest? Tell my what you have, there are a bunch of them out there.
-
I build powerglides for a bunch of my racing friends. This manual is a good primer on what to do. If you follow the info you will have a nice working trans. Stock PG pumps are mostly worn out. Do yourself a favor and buy a aftermarket pump. Make sure your clutch packs are set up right if you are running a transbrake.

question concerning trans pressure. i know nothing about PG's (really anything other then a vw trans :D ). so, for pressure, do you only care about low gear? is pressure a concern for shift or does it have something to do with lockup or ? what does a reduction in psi mean?
so for psi sensor, install in item #2 in the above pic? 0-300 psi ok?

Jon do you have a bell crank on that shifter set up?
-
Carl Monroe's book non better. Ithink its call powerglide hand book, google his name probably show up.

noslin, Yes we plumbed our gauge to #2 and yes, I was told 200-250 would be good numbers. We have a new Reid superglide pump coming and we bought the J.W. Transmission manual. Going to take it out tomorrow for the final time this year and then it comes apart.
