Now I am wondering if Mike Rice tried to do the Nitro ban (starting with us) and a bunch of racers pushed back ?  Now this whole thing is looking really stupid.

The REAL story of what happened !
First it's not a new team, but a new driver. We had planned on making runs at Fontana one week before to make license upgrade runs for advanced ET. Fontana was a rain out so we went to Bakersfield hoping to make upgrade in Afuel qualifying but no go. We already paid long in advance to enter & it was suggested that we enter NE1 and just run the car. NE1 is an all run class so we did not need to Qualify just needed to go down the track and we were in. We made one easy hit to get the new driver familiar with the car & planned to make a full easy pass in first round. I was informed before I left the starting line that Mike Rice wasn't happy. I knew that nitro was legal in the past. Ken Gentry was already talking to my driver when I got to the car. Ken was somewhat shaken, like someone had upset him. He asked, Van can you take the nitro out ? I asked why - he said that they- NHRA didn't want nitro in NE 1  I told Ken that I could not run the car on Alky alone. I could see that he was visibly upset, I said Ken calm down we will put the car away. I did not want to put Ken in a bad position & didn't want to start a NHRA war. NO one ever came to our pit or ever talked to us any further.

Front Engine Dragsters / Re: fed weight

Jon   The MSD 10  is not almost as good as a 44 - it is the next in line going down the list. The MSD 10 became very popular with the Pro Mod crowd when it was available. MSD has planed it's being obsolete by not making any more, they want to sell mags. No charging system needed unless you have other big power draws. Mag guys will argue the differences forever & that's OK

1300 lbs is nice and light. Our 225" wb Heritage JF car with an all iron 400 ci SBC weighs 1445 WITH our driver.  No blower. We run 7.0's with a best of 190 mph on pure alky.
So you are happy with your MSD distributer ?  All the Heritage JF teams find they need MSD mag's either 12amp or like us 20 amp, with no problems. We moved up to the 20 amp when we started running more compression and more fuel to keep it from missing.  We run the 20 amp in my SBC and the Gene Adams built Hemi. How big a battery do you need running the dist ? No battery needed with MSD or Mallory mags. Only battery needed in JF is a one pound battery to run the transbrake and RacePak.
Good luck with your new chassis.

I really do not like mags. I run a very old MSD 10  Got to be over 20 years old. MSD discontinued these because they didn't want it to compete with their new line of mags. I run a Std full size battery, It's right behind my 80# of lead. I run a Pro Comp distributor. We self start and run on the one battery, never an issue, never a miss. The MSD 10 easily equals the pro mag 20, as told to me by MSD  Our last pass in 7.0  torched the tips off 3 plugs and removed all the porcelain from them, no misfire. We are going to run A fuel & the MSD 10 will stay on the car untill it dies & then we will install the MSD 10 PLus. I have been 6.60 @220 on nitro 30 years ago with a MSD 8 before they were released for sale. I am always looking for more MSD 10's and the coils -

Always keep a fire extinguisher in the tow vehicle & a fire resistant treated blanket also helps. We keep ours in the back ready to grab if needed.

Jon's Wheel House / Re: Hoosier replacement tires
« on: April 05, 2017, 09:11:09 PM »
Every time I read these threads on tire & wheel combos I can't begain to understand all the reasons for small tires on wide rims. I have always ran a 2 inch smaller rim than tire size. I think that Jon & Bruce run narrower rims than tire size & it works. With a narrow rim the car takes less HP & time to get up on the tire.
My combo is way different than anything I've ever seen posted. I run a 33 X 14.5 Hoosier on a 12 inch rim 8 PSI. I run a 3.54 gear, We stage at idle & use only the foot brake. Our 60 Ft. times are 1.03 - 1.05   We use a 9 inch very tight converter. At the march meet 7.11 @ 189  Motor is detuned to keep it in the 7's  I am almost ready to drop in the A fuel motor & might go to a 3.25 gear. I think I will need a 10 inch converter before it's right.
