I have a few safety questions

I was over at Brian darcys shop today looking at his comp dragster i noticed no master cut off switch on his car is it required on a dragster also im running a carb on gas with a electric fuel pump any other shut off required besides a on off electric switch do i need a mechanical fuel shut off valve runnig a holley black pump on gas with a regulator may switch to alky carb later . Thanks for the help.

I do not believe you need a fuel shut off until yo have a mechanical fuel pump.
I hope this helps this was taken from the 2013 NHRA rule book

Pumps/Valves: Cars equipped with carburetor(s) or non-electronic
fuel (EFI) systems but with mechanical non-OEM fuel pumps must
have a quick-action fuel-shutoff valve within easy reach of driver
and located in the main fuel line between the fuel tank and the
carburetor and/or injectors. Fuel recirculation systems not part of
normal fuel/pump system prohibited. All cars in Stock, Super Stock,
Competition, and Pro Stock must be equipped with a positive-lock
drain valve located between the fuel tank and the carburetor(s) or
fuel injector to facilitate removal of fuel samples for fuel-check
purposes.

SECTION 12A - GAS DRAGSTER

IGNITION
See General Regulations 8:1, 8:3, 8:4, 8:5.

8:3 IGNITION
Each car in competition must have a positive-action on/off switch,
capable of de-energizing the entire ignition system, in good working
order, located within easy reach of the driver. “Momentary contact”
switch prohibited. Magneto “kill button”-type switches are prohibited.
All ignition systems and/or components wiring harnesses and
attachments must utilize those supplied by the ignition system
manufacturer. The wiring harness must be used in an unaltered
manner consistent with the manufacturer’s installation and
instruction books.
All removable or pin-type timing devices are prohibited.
The use of any programmable multi-point rev limiter and/or a rateof-
acceleration rpm limiter, either by themselves (e.g., MSD 7561)
or integrated into the ignition system (e.g., MSD 7531), are
prohibited in NHRA competition.
8:4 MASTER CUTOFF
Mandatory when battery is relocated, or as outlined in Class
Requirements. An electrical power cutoff switch (one only) must be
installed on the rearmost part of each vehicle and be easily
accessible from outside the car body. This cutoff switch must be
connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must
stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition. The off
position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.” If switch is
“push/pull” type, “push” must be the action for shutting off the
electrical system, “pull” to turn it on. Any rods or cables used to
activate the switch must be minimum 1/8-inch diameter. Plastic or
keyed switches prohibited. Switches and/or controls must be
located behind rear wheels on rear-engine dragsters.

I have one switch with cables going to it from the cockpit and rear of the dragster

Ricci I have a master disconnect mounted on my chassis and I use a Morse cable to the back of the car . You do need some sort of electrical shut off in the rear of the car .

Brian doesn't have a Master Disconnect because he uses an external power source to start the car, and has a magneto.  Only battery on the car is a tiny one to power the Racepak.

Yes we did we ran from 94 thru 99 if I remember right we runner upper twice once to Mike Brown and once to the Clark family.

I thought I recognized your name...I'm Mike and I am glad to see that you are still racing too.
You had a blue car at the time, I think. Gettin' on towards 20 years ago. Maybe we will see you
at Bowling Green this summer.

Mike I'm not driving the car anymore it belonged to Fred Green and I built the engines and trans and drove. Fred don't run the car anymore I'm thinking about building a new chassis of my own still have injectors and front wire wheels even bought a 25 foot 5" I beam to build it on. There are three cars that I know of just sitting here in Michigan not for sale.
