Aluminum sbc

Guido:
Any thoughts on running an aluminum block sbc with a dry sump on alcahol without water?

dreracecar:
Run/Ran aluminum SBC (Donovan) for 24 years, dry block ,wet sump, Water is only critical in the heads to keep from burning up between the exhaust valves. Unless you get/got a smokin deal on a Sprint Car dry sump block, it's weight and lots of expense without any real gain

Paul New:
I run a Brodix block and AJPE heads I run dry.  If I had a conventional headed SBC I would run water in the heads.

glofria:
We run a Dart block w/ Brodex symmetrical style heads and a VHS dry sump system; blown application.

In the past we have used standard style heads while circulating Evans Coolant through the heads only by way of a VW Scirraco electric water pump.

glofria:
One other thing worth noting. with a narrow dragster chassis we mounted the pump under/ off to the side of the oil pan. Must use a shallow pan.

If you want to see a photo, I'll have to dig around for one.
