2 12v or one 16v battery
« on: May 16, 2018, 09:09:53 PM »
Ok car has one 12v Braile battery now. While it cranks over so so,its not as strong as it needs to be. I can add second 12v and cars is setup for it.Next option is 16v battery. Have heard lots swear by 16v. I know its not wiring.Same voltage at starter as at battery, used o wire thru out.  Starter being problem is possible 2 braile's weigh almost same as 16v.While adding weight sucks,it is in front of axle center line,so not terrible.

Wondering what others are running with on board battery?

If i was going to carry a battery, it would be a 16v.

Chris You will see a big difference with the 16 volt ! It will crank a lot faster ! The down side is weight and you will need a 16 volt charger !

You may want to consider a Marine type 12v battery with over a 1000 amp rating.

Marine battery way to heavy. Already have a 12,14,16 volt charger and from reply's on DRR  and Bill's seems 16v is deal to go with. Yes its more weight, but about same as two Braile 12v. Plus it is out front and we know FED's never need nose weight.LOL  Hate adding weight, but at same time have to be able to depend on car cranking when in line.My luck it would only screw up in semi or finals of big money race and cost me 10 time cost of battery.

That's what we have in the Orange Camaro too and it does well. We have 12v batteries in both the '57 and the NE1 Dragster that Eily drives (blown SBC) and we have no issues spinning over the mag. We also use MSD Starters in all three cars.

16 volt battery is on the way. Figure 12v maybe fine but everyone running 16volt swear by them.

Did you order a charger also? That is why we went with 2-12v Odessey  batteries in series to make 24v no special charger needed

Have jad a XS 12,14,16 volt charger for year and half so made decision easier.  Hey had the charger so needed a battery that required it to justify the money spent. Always a problem with race car.LMAO
