Shift light for dumies

(1/1)

retroboy:
Howdy
Will one of those adjustable 12 volt led shift lights pick up a pulse from the earth terminal of an old internal coil Vertex mag.
Cheers

Supercat:
We use a signal convertor to run a Sun tach and shift lite.
Works great

Spud Miller:

Tachs always want a positive DC pulse and mag is an AC animal. The Autometer 9118 or MSD 8132 will convert the AC signal to DC for your tach or shiftlight device. Unfortunately, those devices (they are same thing with a different label) work about half the time for people. They hate RFI and tachs and shift-lights freak out sometimes using those.

If ignition noise gives you problems, you could try getting a Vertex cap opened up for low impedance suppression wires, or try our device. Ours is a bunch more expensive to make but usually works where other devices have failed. Your mileage may vary!
