Optimum tire/wheel combination

Roo:  What's your take on the ideal tire/wheel combination for a blown alcohol/A-fuel FED?  Obviously the NTF cars are required to run the M&H or Hoosier 16x12 tire, but what do you like on cars that don't have a rule requirement?  And beadlocks or not?  My particular application is a 210" FED, blown alcohol BBC approximately 1300-1600 HP range, Mike's Monsterglide (1.78 1st), and whatever rearend gear works best, but was probably going to start out with 3.70's. Currently I have some Centerline 15x14" non beadlock wheels with Goodyear 33x14.5-15 tires , #2070 D6. Although I do know guys running these tires successfully, they seem a little big. Was thinking of a smaller tire but it needs to be a 33" tall (so the bottom rail isn't too low), and Goodyear has discontinued all of the 33x12 and 33x14.0 tires.

Or another possibility is to convert to a 16" rim and run the NTF tire, but would that work well in a much less powerful alcohol engine in front of a transmission and torque converter?

Thanks for any assistance!

I just bought a set of Phoenix 10.5x33 they measure 12in. wide and are 103.5 tall on a 12in. wide wheel :o They are a very nice looking tire as you know they were Firestone then Coker tire bought all the molds and redone them I think you see more of one brand more than other is Monkey see Monkey do do ;D Lots of bracket dragsters run mainly Hoosier then M/T Goodyear! All are good but some work better on different cars! I honestly think that tire you have is overkill but if your like me you run what you have!   Good luck let us know what worked ;)

I can't understand why Goodyear stopped making those tires . I was using the 12x33's on my car and they were very fast . Hoosier makes a similar tire I just hope it will work for me. That 14.5 tire dosen't sound like it is too big
