INDEXING A BARROL VALVE
« on: July 17, 2016, 06:39:50 AM »
Went indexing  a barrel valve can you index with the wrong rotation? i set the valve at 28% leak with the rotation pulling to the left looking at the barrel valve from the drivers seat. ( right to left) why i ask is i was playing with the secondary bypass outlet thinking about use it to help staging the car. when i put pressure to the valve, (100 psi) the secondary (open) it had about 10 %  more leak. 38%. but when you just move the the barrel valve maybe 1/16 of a inch the secondary closes. it not near 1/4 or 1/2 wot.
hope you can understand my question.   old Hilborn stack injection bbc

always thanks you your time

Yes, you can rotate backwards if you're not careful.

In the case of a Hilborn, remove the inlet fitting from the metering valve block and look down into it. Now notice that the inlet hole in the top of the block is not centered. One side is wider than the other. When the spool rotates open, the slot MUST open up on the narrow side, NOT the wide side. The hole for the secondary must be visible in the idle position and disappear to the WIDE side upon throttle opening.

Metering valves are made in each rotation direction, but spools are able to do both directions (just turn it over 180 degrees). If your metering valve is the wrong way for you, you can turn it around (secondary fitting facing backwards) or put the arm on so that it pulls from the bottom to change the direction. OR...set your butterflies up to open the other direction.
