moderate blower od
« on: May 11, 2016, 11:49:23 AM »
Looking at a blower i can get at good price. Thinking about having a second setup for nostalgia type event and shows. Its 6-71 so as to work with rules.

While my basica engine combo can handle about what ever i can throw at it with this blower.Heck use be same parts in fuel cars when they where piddley 7500 or 8000 hp. Wondering what kind of power a 6-71 with moderate overdrive say 25 to 35% would make. This is on 496 ci Tfx-92 with bae heads, 12.5:1 compression and mag 12.

Would require cpl upgrades to trans. Also wondering about the motor at 49" out, setup for injected motor.Only thing have to buy to make blown would be blower everything else is sitting here on shelf or hanging on wall including 4 new belts.

Any idea on power with this lower drive.Use to 50 to 60% od.If 35% too much for mild setup?

are you thinking of running A/fuel? if so that has a fuel pump rule which limits your OD/Compression combo.

Not really setting up for it right now. But will check those I knew pump and od had limit not compression.Nostalgia thing would be more show stuff or show/race.If there was more nostalgia stuff close I would worry more about rule deal and can always make change if need.

only thing I found in rule book was 70% od max,550 ci max 1875 minimum and 7.6 gpm pump. No mention on compression. So my 526 with 50 to 60% will work if pump can keep it fed.Not sure it would at that od. Ok still just dreaming but its possible dream.

I kind of misinformed you with the compression, you can only get away with so much compression and OD with the limited pump to keep from burning up pistons.

Most blowers max out at boost till cavatation happens, OD just determends how quickly it comes up to full boost.  I ran mine at 5 over and 20 over and both times it maxed at 24pounds

YEA WE RAN 13.5:1 IN THE ALKY CAR FOR WHILE BUT FOUND OUT 12.5 WAS EASIER ON PARTS and ran faster. That was with 14-71 at 54% and 42# and with whipple at 54% max allowe and was making 44 lbs but was cooler air temp due to almost zero friction with screw blower.that was also with a 20 gpm pump and 13gpm to motor system which is almost twice whats allowed in nostalgia. i know some of the new 6-71 can build almost as much boost, but with them some of the pressure is from heat and thats not oxygen just hot air.

Those dang old peterbuilt blowers are ok ,but they are not screw blower by no means. Then screw blowers are not allowed.LOL

With a blower and alcohol, inlet port temp only see's 64* , so heat from the blower is a non-issue unless running gas.

DISCHARGE temp differance in high helix and screw blower runs 20* plus depending on amount of fuel put thru blower.Screw blowers normally run less fuel thru blower and more thru portsb because of zero friction they need less to lube rotors.Od has big effect as does high helix vs regular roots. Not argueing just stating what racepak data has shown.

I would love to have the looks of a 6-71 but the internals of a screw on my car. I don't race in a class that I need a 6-71 so it is just an for looks thing! Lol
