Fellow FED member's son is down.
« on: July 25, 2014, 05:12:02 AM »
Austin Means, son of Greg Means (FED member gregm784) was involved in a ATV accident. His son has been working with him to learn the ropes. No one wants to see anyone hurt when it's a kid it's worse. Positive though and prayers would go along way..

He is stable and in good spirits. He is in surgery having large laceration sewn up. Approx 9"long. He got scalped they said.

The major concern is a fractured C4 vertebra in his neck. We will know more after an mri is done. The ct showed a fractured, but they aren't sure how bad yet. Getting the bleeding on his head stopped is more important as he is stable and alert.

I’ve seen head injury, they do bleed alot, very worrisome time for all those around, and most especially for his family.  My fingers crossed, sending healing prayers to Austin especially for his fractured C4 vertebra (plus prayers for strength and comfort for his family).  Austin does have youth in his corner, us old guys know that’s huge.  Human body amazing, does much healing which is still unexplained.

Two of our club members in the Denver Flatheaders worked and retired from Craig Hospital in Denver.  Craig is a “awesome” hospital, has “awesome” patients.  Wes once said to me and I carry with me forever, “you think you have problems, you don’t have problems. Spend a day at Craig and you’ll be amazed.”  Wes right, I’ve never had a problem again.
gregm784, my best.  Peace, Alan Samura

Status update

Had a surgical consult today. Hopefully surgery on the morning or Tuesday.  Have to fuse c3 & c4. Broke the tendons on c4 as well as broke the vertebra. Lucky no paralysis.

Austin update.
Gang way. He's mobile.
He sat up for the first time since he laid down in the ambulance Thursday night. He wheeled himself around the ward twice in a chair, then stood up and made a lap on his own feet. After 3 laps total, he sat down and is now resting.

Austin update:
Austin has had an adventurous day. Pain levels are WAY down from yesterday. Hard to believe he had major surgery 24 hrs ago. He's been outta bed probably 5 times. Numerous doctors have come by and poked/prodded/stretched, etc him. He's back to eating like a 16 year old. Drinking great. Went downstairs in a wheelchair for x-rays, those look great. Even met with the PT. Yea, she's not getting a Christmas card any time soon...We are all tired, and glad night time is about here. Here's hoping we all get good sleep.
